Boycott the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Last edited Fri Jun 17, 2016, 10:20 AM - Edit history (1)

Blowback Time.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce really needs to hear from the public, and to be publicly spanked for joining a freaking anti-solar crusade, as detailed in the OP started by babylonsister:

I'm sure they will welcome comments from American consumers (aka human beings) via email and social media. Contact: https://www.uschamber.com/about-us/chamber-commerce-the-united-states-america-contact-us

U.S. Chamber of Commerce joins anti-solar crusade
By Ben Adler on Jun 15, 2016

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the latest conservative group to start spreading anti-solar messages. In an email sent to supporters on Wednesday, the chamber attacks net metering, a policy in place in many states that pays people with solar panels on their roofs for the electricity they feed into the grid.

1. List and boycott their members.

It's gotta be done like the "Dump Rush" campaign. Get a list of their members and start calling them. This strategy has reduced the members of A.L.E.C. (I would bet that many of the same names that were on A.L.E.C.'s register are members of the Chamber of Commerce.

This takes time, but it works.

2. . . .

U.S. Chamber Out of Step With Its Own Board, Report Finds

None of the 108 board members of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce came forward to explicitly support the lobbying group’s policies on tobacco and climate change, according to a new report from a group of eight Senate Democrats, including Senator Elizabeth Warren and Senator Bernie Sanders.

The report, which was written by Senator Warren and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, followed on reporting by The New York Times that revealed the chamber’s international campaign against antismoking laws and its efforts to undermine policies aimed at curbing global warming.

“The chamber’s lobbying is at odds with its own public positions,” the report found. It noted that the “organization strongly professes that it is anti-tobacco” and has claimed to support “efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

In a statement, the chamber described the report’s contents as a “partisan line of attack” that was “egregiously false” and recycled “old myths and tired talking points.”

The Times reported that the chamber had focused on antismoking measures advanced by health advocates from Ukraine to Nepal to Australia. The measures targeted by the chamber included restrictions on smoking in public spaces, bans on menthol and slim cigarettes, curbs on tobacco advertising, excise-tax increases and graphic warning labels. Thomas J. Donohue, the head of the chamber, personally lobbied the speaker of the House, the United States trade representative and the Irish prime minister on the tobacco industry’s behalf.

(Just IMO, the CoC ought to be shut down under the RICO Act - it's a criminal org)

7. Just for reference:

What are they doing that is criminal?

Except advocating for things you don't like, of course?

4. The US Chamber of Commerce is not really much connected to local Chambers of Commerce.

This is one of the reasons they have gotten away with so much. People often think of the local chambers in a fairly positive way and they usually are mainly a business networking group that have social meetings and are not involved in a lot of politics. The US Chamber is just another part of the Kochtopus.

5. Local Chambers then need to turn on the US Chamber and demand common sense

Because the anti-people, pro-pollution stance the US Chamber has idiotically adopted is going to tar and feather the whole freaking concept.

6. I agree. Pressure your local chamber unless they publicly cut ties with the national group
