Who's Advising Trump on Foreign Policy?

JUN 17 2016, 5:42 PM ET
by ALEX SEITZ-WALD

Four months after his campaign released a list of advisers that was widely panned by Republican national security experts, the answer remains a bit of a mystery.

"We have received tremendous support from many experts and key advisers," Trump spokesperson Hope Hicks told NBC News. Asked who specifically those people were, Hicks replied, "None that we are prepared to announce at this time."

It's the polar opposite approach to that taken by HIllary Clinton, who has built a staff of hundreds and assembled a baroque network of outside foreign policy advisers. Trump, meanwhile, brags about not needing to rely on establishment experts and is hoping Americans' disillusionment with the foreign policy status quo will help him carry the day ...

"He doesn't appear to want to learn about issues. So, I'm going to vote for Mrs. Clinton," said former George W. Bush State Department official Richard Armitage, who on Thursday became the latest and highest ranking GOP official to announce he would support Clinton ...

As his policy proposals, in general, appear to consist of saying whatever pops into his head and then sending out his surrogates to justify whatever popped into his head, I don't see why he would need advisers.

Sure, he can have talks with supposed advisers, but this is mostly PR designed to make him look like he's pivoting. There is no pivot. Never will be. Trump does whatever the hell he wants.

Or .... The GOP go down in the most lopsided election cycle in history ...

I swear that even Sarah Palin is a step up from maybe the dumbest, most intentionally ignorant candidate ever ...

His campaign is actually a disaster with zero message unity in the party .... Just Dumb Ass Donald sayin whatever the fuck comes out of that 'tiny hands' brain of his ... Nobody can keep up with his lame rantings ... This is going to be a tremendous embarrassment for the Republicans ...

The only way they can hope to preserve the slightest chance is to dump the Trump, and hope the ranting mob of pissed off Trump supporters don't completely avoid the polls in November ...

No matter how you slice and dice it - The GOP is jacked up on their own petard ... Right up their collective XXX ...

This was a couple weeks ago he was asked who his top foreign policy advisers were .. he didn't name anyone and just said his top adviser was 'myself' and then he said he had a very big brain.

Don't have a link but it shouldn't be hard to find, he actually said that

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, who has long shied away from naming any foreign policy advisors, suggested Wednesday that he was his own top consultant on the issue.

"I'm speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain, and I've said a lot of things," Trump said during a telephone interview on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"Critics on the right charge that even Trump's overtures are largely for show."

"The campaign has made it clear to absolutely everybody that they'll listen if you really, really want to talk to them, but they don't really give a damn what you people think.

"'You people' being experts. People who know where Baghdad is on the map," added Pletka.

Trump has bragged he doesn't need outside advisers. "My primary consultant is myself and I have a good instinct for this stuff," Trump said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" in March. "I'm speaking with myself, number one, because I have a very good brain."
