And he is above 7% in 7 more states. You have to start wondering if he might help tip one of these states to the Democrats

(58,724 posts)He comes across much more "sensible" - I think Romney said he would vote for Weld.
Reter
(2,188 posts)He was a very liberal Republican, while Johnson at least always had a libertarian streak. The Libertarian Party is flipping that he's even on the ticket.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)It's the RINOs that are looking for an alternative to Trump.
Reter
(2,188 posts)I think he'd have a much better chance with a guy like Rand Paul.

(3,335 posts)If the Libertarians who know him don't want him, why would we.
oberliner
(58,724 posts)That's why people like Romney and other Republicans see him as being a palatable option.

(16,184 posts)And possibly could fuck Trump.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)He isn't sucking in votes from the democrats. These are all solid republican voters that are running to Johnson. Trump may want to look out, he might not have to just worry about making up the large deficit with Clinton, he may soon have the Libertarian Party nipping at his heels.

(34,648 posts)Hillary is taking some of the women. If Trump keeps talking Ak might go blue or Libertarian. I would enjoy that shit.

(3,072 posts)We haven't had a 3rd party take a state since 1968.

(34,648 posts)The Tea Party was big up here though. Even so, Murkowski manage to win a historic write in campaign when the republicans nominated some weirdo Tea Party dude. So, if Johnson managed a steal... I would laugh my ass off.

(11,619 posts)If his numbers continue to climb, the Libertarian party could eclipse the Republican that crumbles under the weight of Trumpism.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)There are at least a few states that clinton likely won because Perot ate up some of Bush's votes, like Kentucky and Montana. Would be interesting to see if any of those hardcore red states are in play. Keep an eye on Utah. That one could go blue, shockingly.

(3,072 posts)But he was the governor there and last i saw the dems were polling above 50% in NM. He would probably be stealing the western/libertarian/mormon vote from trump in NM

(1,957 posts)The law says they pick out of the top 3.
Then the senate does the vp... who may or may not be on the same ticket.
PoliticAverse
(26,366 posts)That'd be one wild 4 years.

(1,957 posts)How about Johnson and that Ryan guy from Youngstown (assuming Hillary picks strong third wayer)?
Or if the gop runs a parallel campaign with someone like Kasich and he gets a few states, not enough to make a splash, just a spoiler.
Even if he got only 30 EVs and the other got many more.... he could be selected.
The 1% would love to see Warren marginalized into the VP slot. And then replaced by a republican in the senate. Win, win. No more hearings.

(36,744 posts)They will hope their candidate is in the top 3 and select them in the H of Reps.

(111,174 posts)and not all Republicans are assholes, believe it or not. I think Johnson will do quite well with the non assholes.
It's not a bad thing, he didn't actually screw things up worse here in NM. He just didn't get necessary things, like ending the sales tax on food, done.
I honestly think the writing is on the wall for the gee oh pee, they've had to make too many bad deals with too many devils and now the devils are taking over. I fully expect a shift of the big money and the party kingmakers over to the Libertarians.

(1,495 posts)Obama only lost by 3 points there in 2008, and it has a Dem Senator and Governor.
Doctor Jack
(3,072 posts)In 2012, romney won montana by about 13 points. It was Romney 55%, Obama 42%, Johnson 3%. Assuming it is now that it is Trump 45%, Clinton 42%, and Johnson 12%, and it could be close. Besides the 2012 results and Johnson's current polling at 12%, there isn't much info but based on rough guess, we could be in that ballpark.

(36,744 posts)I want to hear what Johnson and Weld have to say.
They do well and their poll numbers will go up.

(10,437 posts)a 400 (or more) electoral vote win for her....and a democratic congress.....this is like 1972 Nixon-McGovern in a weird kind of reversal....in 1972 the democrats selected a nominee that was completely over matched by the republicans...and the most bitter landslide was painful to watch....when Reagan won in 1984, there was no surprise of the landslide
the conservatives have selected trump as their version of McGovern
