Let's face it. The Donald ain't gonna make it through the convention. They're already trying to figure out ways to shitcan him. And they will.
And the Donald doesn't like being trifled with. He'll be looking for revenge after they humiliate him, and replace him with Romney.

(24,356 posts)Hillary is the most liberal candidate for President from a major party we've ever had. She's well to the Left of Obama or Carter.
Fuddnik
(8,846 posts)She's well to the right of Nixon.
People have been directionally challenged for a while. Don't know their left fom their right.

Johnny2X2X
(24,356 posts)She's a liberal and has always been one.
"Clinton rates as a hard core liberal per the OnTheIssues.org scale. She is as liberal as Elizabeth Warren and barely more moderate than Bernie Sanders. And while Obama is also a hard core liberal, Clinton again was rated as more liberal than Obama."
More liberal than Obama as liberal Warren and a hair away from being as liberal as Bernie.
The idea that she's a moderate is going to work for her in the general election though, and it's also going to help her get a lot more accomplished as President than if she were viewed as what she is, a hardcore liberal.

(1,884 posts)BTY, Hillary is to the Right of Obama and he is not exactly Liberal either.
Johnny2X2X
(24,356 posts)She has a long record of voting liberal and of championing liberal causes. So while you have an idea in your head that she isn't liberal, her record is actual proof that she is.

(546 posts)Voted the conservative position 10% of the time when he was in the Senate. Hillary Clinton voted conservative 8% of the time; Elizabeth Warren votes conservative 4% of the time and Bernie Sanders voted the conservative position 6% of the time according to the American Conservative Union's rankings of Congress.

Florida Democratic Senator Bill Nelson votes conservative 28% of the time.
Utah Republucan Senatr Mike Lee votes conservative 100% of the time.

(53,316 posts)Goldwater had no problem with gays in the military and he wouldn't have approved of using tax cuts to fix deficits. The closest current pol I can think of to Goldwater is Tulsi Gabbard.

So that Goldwater schtick is just old, tired, inaccurate, and kind of dumb.

(61,057 posts)It would not work. In retrospect, that ticket would have likely won and the VP has little power. Kerry as President would not have picked either Alito or Roberts.

(24,713 posts)... wait, who's the opponent?
Can Trump run as the Republican Presidential candidate AND as the Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate?
Yes, maybe this makes sense.
Somewhere.
karynnj
(61,057 posts)If as suggested it was because the Republicans picked someone else, it is a terrible idea. They could not get the NY electoral college delegates. This makes sending it to the Congress more likely and that is not good.

(23,156 posts)There's some old joke, probably from the 19th century, about a promising politician going off to Washington, becoming Vice President, and never being heard from again.
It makes far more sense than Elizabeth Warren in that powerless job.
To be honest, the only down side to this proposal is that it would not be possible to make sure Donald is not around a live microphone ever again.
book_worm
(15,951 posts)because it would be worse to replace him at this point. Whoever they replace him with would have a lot of Trump supporters (basically the GOP rank and file) upset at them.
jamese777
(546 posts)From their 2014 rankings of members of Congress on their actual voting records. A ranking of 100 is a perfect conservative voting record.
"Another interesting fact in our analysis is the stark reminder that Sec. Hillary Clinton is no moderate. While many in the media portray her as more centrist than self-described Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) or fringe activist Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Clintons lifetime rating of 8.13% is within two percentage points from those extremists. And shockingly, all three of these presidential hopefuls are even more liberal than President Barack Obamas Lifetime Rating of 10% from when he served in the U.S. Senate. If America wants a third Obama term, three candidates will not disappoint."
