What if we opened the gates and let everyone in?
Yes, let the Trumpsters in; at least for a while. Drop all front-gate censorship and have real, live, open debates.
Those that love censorship could alert and jury and hide and ban to their heart's content. But the rest of us just may learn a few things.
Don't get me wrong... it ain't gonna happen, but as a free-thinker and pretty fine debater, it would be interesting to me to see DU take on and destroy the republicans.

PS. A careful reader will note that several replies are being ignored because the posters are on my ignore list. And I think you can see why?

(53,339 posts)But Skinner would have to rename DU to something like...
Percussionist.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)But just for a while. Just to see what it is like and what they will be throwing at us over the next few months.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Terrible, horrible idea!
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)And DU, is imo, about to become quite boring. And quiet. Yet be half full of Trump Ops, and stories about Trump this and Trump that.
Being an adventurous type is not for everyone, so I get the utter fear this idea makes some feel.
tblue37
(68,436 posts)to turn DU into Discussionist.
Most of us don't go to Discussionist specifically because we don't want to wade through the mierda when it gets that deep.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Those who live to alert and serve on juries would have all kinds of fun.

(53,339 posts)We have better things to do. And yes, that even includes posting and enjoying pun threads and LOLcats.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)I can get better puns and cats elsewhere. I come here for politics. See the title of the website?
I guess I am just no afraid of a good political debate and we haven't really had much of that in a long while.

(179,869 posts)That site is what you are proposing
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)DU serves the wide variety of interests of its members, both political and nonpolitical interests.
If you can't find wide-open political debate elsewhere on the web, you're doing it wrong. Because That's what most political discussion on the web is.
As others have suggested, go to DI and find out what kind of swamp you're advocating.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)OK.
I am not too keen in a closed system that is exclusive of outsiders. I have no fear of a few Trumpsters.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Please, please just pass your suggestion to Skinner in ATA and spare us this nonsense.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)They have a little button that you can use to just trash this and go on your way. Geez, spare me yours.

(53,339 posts)Really, rruly, deeply. How can Skinner not be moved by your plea?
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)You make me laugh.
Read the OP again, apparently for the first time.
Bwahahahaha.

Heh, lots of ignored posters here. I think one can see why, eh?
Hopefully Skinner will take care of them come tomorrow.

(3,146 posts)I signed up here in January of 2004. I lost my password for my original account when I moved and created this new profile in 2006. Originally I came here as a place of solace during the crazy Bush years. Then they introduced the video section here and I would come here to watch the clips. During all of those years, I would leave minimal responses and posts, and I always came here during election seasons. This year I've come here to communicate with progressives and posted more than I ever did in my previous ten years. I think a lot of us originals will be leaving after today.

This place is for Democrats, and our goal here is to elect more of them, and fewer Republicans to public office.
You can get plenty of Trumpeteering over at Discussionist--give it a go if that's your pleasure. You can fight with them, mock them, agree with them, whatever floats your boat.

(11,076 posts)This place was for Democrats. Now it's a place where some folks are looking to import people to fight with! Where some good solid Dems have been forced to turn away from. I hope she's worth it!

(11,076 posts)Trumpsters would be a new low, but good luck with that!
Yeah, with the Bernie folks laying low, there could quite possibly be some on here who would have someone else to unleash on, leaving us Berners alone.

(13,685 posts)We could winnow thru the utter crap and maybe find a few Americans that offer some sense.
I mean, c'mon, DU is about to become boring as hell.
AgadorSparticus

(13,685 posts)DU is gonna be full of Trump this and Trump that anyway.
Last time I looked, GD was half full of Trump threads.
Trust me, DU is getting ever so boring and about to be more so.
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Again, I am not scared of a good debate. DU has a majority of good Leftists and a jury system, so only Trumpsters on their best behavior will last more than a few posts.
See, I believe in DU. Oh, my faith is dashed on the rocks many a day, but that's life. Like I say, we have many fine Leftists here, so we will always win the debates.
AgadorSparticus
(7,963 posts)To intellectual exchange. I used to learn so much about anything and everything here on DU. The last few months seems to have been all about personalities. I think (hoping?) that moving to the GE will stimulate those discussions again.

Besides, mark my words, DU is about to get very boring.

(20,627 posts)"Here's why we should ignore South Carolina vote"
"Exit polls from SC show 19% want more progress, the other 81% are happy with the way things are or want to go backward.
1% of the under 30 crowd voted and it's probably because they are scared.
Forget SC, it is among the most backwards of states with some of the meanest people I have ever met. It is not far from being a slave state again, only the federal government keeps it from doing so.
SC retains the Master/servant style of population. Hillary represents the master class well, with her riches and standing. Bernie, being Jewish and a white male has three strikes against him.
The poor people of that state have my utmost sympathy. They have been beaten down and oppressed for so long they don't know what's up."
Good luck wherever you go, Bob!

(9,993 posts)This sounds like a plea to let the Bernie supporters who want to not abide by the rules come Monday to stay and keep on spouting every conspiracy theory they want. Couldn't be that could it?
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Like the conspiracy that bush set up with the voting machines that they used to steal elections? And that the machines are still being used? Is that a theory? I think not. It's all too true.
Eko
(9,993 posts)won twice, he stole the elections?
Obama won because the turnout was so great. And now republicans control congress and most states due to the system.
So, you are in denial about the vote counting system that bush set up?
Tell me why you have faith in that system.
so the elections were stolen by Bush, then not by Obama, then again by the republicans then again by Clinton. Somehow they were asleep during the eight years of Obama?
Eko
(9,993 posts)RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)You are catching on.
Not only that, in states where Obama won, like Florida, the republicans won a whole bunch of state seats. So, Obama gets all those votes and then the voters turn around and vote republicans down ticket? SURE!
They could not beat Obama, but they sure beat the democrats and you now have a clue, Good for you!
Eko
(9,993 posts)If one didn't know the actual turnout of Democrats during the midterms. Pesky facts!.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)When Obama was top of ticket, the down ticket Dems lost those votes.
Eko
(9,993 posts)were like "Cool Obama, bad other dems" is that what you are saying? Really?
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)Obama had an overwhelming turnout. Yet many down ticket Dems lost. So, yes, they turned their attention to the down ticket races. In doing so they covered themselves and even have people convinced that if Obama won, the system is fine. Like you.
In 2012, anonymous took credit for fixing the system in the Romney vs Obama race. Rove sat there on Fox news surprised that Ohio did not turn out the way he expected. Anonymous fixed his cooking,
The number crunchers have stated they have evidence that as many as 7 million votes were stolen from Obama.
Even when pure evidence of the machines miscounting votes appeared, judges allowed the owners of the voting machines to keep their hidden programming hidden.
But since Obama won the system is just fine!! Fooled again!!
Eko
(9,993 posts)RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)You are worried about me, and I am worried about our Democracy.
You have faith in the bushes' vote counting system, and that says a lot about you.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)Thankyou.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)You did well dishing it out. Tell me, you have faith in the bush voting machines also?
Eko
(9,993 posts)I can worry about multiple things at once dont cha know. Science deals with testable repeatable things. When they are not such things we tend to look at outside factors and use those to adjust our theories. When the adjustments tend to lead to other evidence that is testable and repeatable we tend to believe in that other that wild conspiracy theories people come up with to say why their preferred candidate lost.
RobertEarl
(13,685 posts)There is a large body of evidence of global warming and there too are the deniers.
There is a large body of evidence of vote stealing and there are the deniers of those facts and the science.
Are you a global warming denier also?
I note your total lack of any acknowledgement of the evidence presented here tonight, and only can see that you have been fooled again by the bushes.
