Trump: 'We don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion'
"We don't know anything about Hillary in terms of religion," he said, speaking to a group of Christian leaders in New York. "Now, she's been in the public eye for years and years, and yet there's no -- there's nothing out there. There's like nothing out there. It's going to be an extension of Obama but it's going to be worse, because with Obama you had your guard up. With Hillary you don't, and it's going to be worse."
Trump was addressing a small group of high-profile evangelicals ahead of speaking before a larger group of religious leaders at a gathering hosted by the Christian group, United in Purpose.
E.W. Jackson, who tweeted video of Trump's remarks, said the comment came while Trump was trying to say that conservatives tend to get questioned more about their faith than liberals.

(8,757 posts)who cares ? The constitution has not litmus test based on religion for being elected to public office. A feeble attempt by Trump to agitate the religious right.

(68,436 posts)OTOH, maybe it is a good thing, in the sense of bring it out into the open the same way he has brought the GOP's dependence on bigotry and misogyny out into the light of day so those in denial can see how ugly and pervasive such attitudes are in the Republican party.

(28,795 posts)did Sarah Palin write this word salad for him? of course not; he's just freeballin' it with his speed freak jive, stream of consciousness blather, spewing out non sequitur nonsense that nobody appears to deconstruct, in order to demonstrate the meaninglessness of a great proportion of every non-scripted word he vomits forth. why isn't he being called on this?
as Rick Wilson, republican strategist said, he's afflicted with political Tourette's
Listen, this is a part of the bigger picture of Donald Trump is that he is not mentally fit to serve as president. The things that come out of his mouth, this is like political Tourettes - everything he thinks, he says and thats not candor thats lunacy.
This is a guy who is letting out uh expressing this thing that turns on the id of a lot of his supporters right now by calling this guy a Mexican saying oh look at my African American like the guys a pet. I mean this is a guy who is unfit for duty, hes unfit to be president. Its obvious, its evident.
It is painful to watch someone like the Congressman just now try to defend the indefensible. It is painful to watch Reince blink out the word torture in morse code when hes standing next to the guy. These are people who have compromised themselves so profoundly and theyre going to have to own every crazy word, every lunatic tweet, every racist statement out of this guys mouth for the next five months.
They should be running for the hills, but theyve been in such fear of Trumps minions and Trumps craziness and theyre afraid of being put on blast by Donald Trump that theyre behaving like the Stockholm syndrome is real and these guys are all stuck with it.

did anybody else see this on Chris Hayes.....last week, I believe. It was shocking, really. I can't think of any dem who's put it better
he's either demented, or in the throes of terminal ADHD. the first three sentences do not belong in the same paragraph as the last three, do they?
that's his true Achilles heel; not the crookedness, not the hypocrisy, not the incompetence, not even the malignant megalomania. he's demented. his brain is dysfunctional; he can't, and won't, control the rants. I can't wait for another psychiatrist to analyze all the recorded material, perhaps on a linear basis, to show the obvious descent into non compos mentis land.

(182 posts)If you are talking to people who would like to see the United States become a theocracy then you make religion an issue - when it is not an issue! Trump is pandering to the religious right, and using the same old "circle the wagons" Christians are losing their religious freedoms, persecution strategy.
The evangelicals are always accusing the left of starting a war on something like "the war on Christmas" and now I guess it's just an all out war on "Christians"; but if you consider the fact that they reject climate change and evolution in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence, maybe it's time for a "war on stupid".
What they want is to see the United States
remade into a theocracy, even though they point their finger at the Middle East and rail out against their religious excesses, I mean most of them do, not the Jesus Camp group though.
Trump is not about the issues, he would much rather engage his opponent in a holier-than-thou debate. But frankly, I don't think he could win, remember "two Corinthians" instead of "Second Corinthians" during a speech at Liberty University.
Republican Party has been moving in the religious extremist and anti-intellectualism direction for many years. Instead of trying to rid themselves of this blight, John McCain chose the most unqualified Vice presidential candidate he could have picked, Sarah Palin and catapulted her to national prominence.
If you ask me, I think the republicans have a look on their face that says, "OMG what have we done"!
Well, that's all from me.
