(Must Watch) The Truth About Guns from NBC News

I'm highly impressed with this short video, and I think you all will enjoy it based on our ongoing discussions and debate about guns in the U.S. I'm shocked this is coming from NBC News. It actually appears to be journalism.

ARFCOM = AR15.com
THR = thehighroad.org

Two of the most popular firearm forums, and both have no shortage of trolls that sign up to DemocraticUnderground.com for no reason other than to spam us with RKBA propaganda.

If you want to educate yourselves, please take a few minutes to look around both forums. Apparently we progressives are going to be the downfall of America. You know, because we do nasty shit like protect immigrants and fight for LGBT causes. The best way to fight us? Sign up for DU and pose as gun-loving Democrats.

(Or until the evul libruls lock us all in FEMA camps because we couldn't get enough guns because of the no-fly list! Or something).

This isn't spam, it's just a clear and concise explanation of the facts. What about that short video do you think is spam?

I've been on DU much longer than you have. ARFCOM is filled with newbs, THR is filled with trolls. I'm guessing you are a frequent poster on both.

It's a sure sign that something important is being covered up.

But that caveat aside, not a bad clip. I would like to imagine that anyone who has held an opinion on this topic already knew all these, but history would no doubt prove me very, very wrong.

I was actually very impressed with that clip. It's clear and concise journalism. I hear and read so much misinformation on the gun debate, I feel like people just aren't aware of the basics. I hope this video helps some.

Must respectfully disagree. We've been hearing about the non-existent "gun show loophole" since........forever. We've been hearing that "assault weapons" are more lethal since they fire at a greater rate than other rifles since........forever.

And we'll continue to hear these lies, despite the fact that they are easily refutable.

the source for the 2014 figures for gun homicide/suicide was credited to the Centers for Disease Control. I'm sure I have repeatedly heard that they are prohibited from collecting such information...

Amazingly factual, none emotion-appealing article.

The CDC may in fact, collect and even collate the material available. The actual ban on research was lifted after the Sandy Hook tragedy, however the funding for the research is blocked, forcing the same result. Collating material is not the same as research.

The information is easily available for anyone sincere in learning.

I sort of felt compelled to whack the side of my head while watching this to clear my ears! A major news source refuting rather than repeating lies about guns?! Providing accurate information?! I mean, WTF is going on here???

Can't help but wonder if our owners are so petrified of Trump that they'll allow they're mouthpieces to attack a wedge issue that damages Democrats. I mean.......they've been sitting on these truths for how long now? Just another example of how absolutely worthless the mainstream media has been.

flag on a table and sell guns without background checks. If they do it too often, they'd be considered a dealer and need a license. And, the yahoos in the parking lot can pretty much sell to whomever they please. Commenter kind of glosses over exceptions.

Good point about the parking lot transactions. How many guns can someone sell to friends or relatives before he has to be a licensed dealer? Also, how long does it take for a NICS check, and if it takes too long, can the buyer get his firearm anyway? Is there a permanent record of what the NICS check showed so that a licensed gun dealer might be held responsible for selling a firearm to someone who shouldn't have it? What sort of liability is there for a licensed gun dealer who sells too many firearms that wind up in the hands of people who shouldn't have them?

Oh yeah; and all the time spent on the crucial difference between an automatic weapon and a semi-automatic weapon. Other than Charles Vacca, nobody cares. You can still shoot a semi-automatic weapon (in the words of John Cole at Balloon Juice) pretty damn fast.
