Democrats pushed for an indefinite hold. GOP wanted a 72 hour window for the government to show why. In a better world, the two sides could well have compromised on a 7, 10, or 15 day window which would have allowed due process, but given the government time to react.

Because 2/3rds of gun deaths are suicide.

Of the 1/3 homicides, over 70% are handguns.

Yet we're focusing on the 100 or so killed by terrorism a year when more than that die a week in regular violence.

But I'm proud of the Democrats for standing up to something and I think they're passionate about it. This might actually be able to pass, so maybe we'll save a few lives, and some is better than nothing.

I think I'm in the same boat with the op.

It can be seen as a show of solidarity and a show of force.
What the bill actually does is not that big a deal.
We have to start somewhere and people are sick and tired of the NRA ruling the republican party.
Maybe with a democratic president and adds to the house and senate, we can revisit banning assault guns, and put in stricter regulations to handguns. Am I dreaming or just having a moment of optimism?
