Hypothetical gun poll

From a conversation I'm having.

If you could snap your fingers, and replace every single civilian-owned handgun in the united states with an AR-15, do you think doing that would make the country more safe or less safe?

you would eliminate all those illegal handguns being carried in public. Fewer guns on the street and in cars will go a long way towards reducing gun violence.

but this joke doesn't work very well.

You really think you can stick one of those in the waistband of your pants like a pistol? I know it is all about scary white racists militia guys to you but come on - can you come back to reality every now and then?

how come gang members are not walking around with AR-15s stuck in their pants? Could it be that they can't really be hid for more than a very short time?

that you can walk around for hours with it undetected? That's pretty delusional, even for a grabber. Even Hoyt's pictures undermine his premise.

Stinkin' innerweb Nazi's...

I have two stripped lowers to build now, would like to make one a pistol but I bought my lowers off facebook and don't know how there were listed on the original 4473. Or do they specify pistol v rifle?

dumbcat

12. They should be

on the 4473 as "other" if they were sold as stripped lowers. But not all FFLs get that right if you don't watch them. Many will mistakenly classify them as "rifle." Then you can never build them as a pistol.

Buying stripped lowers off of Facebook? That doesn't look good.

Back when I was serious about Mt Biking I carried in a small pouch with the tools of the bike trade. I know, I know...off body carry is bad.

These days since I mostly ride with the kids (My sons been putting in 15-25 or more miles a day on summer break) I can carry either in my pocket or just a little fobus holster. When I get out of the saddle for a climb I don't go for time so losing a 45 seconds doesn't bother me.

After all you can't be too safe.

It's just a great bike...600 today doesn't get you much of a bike IMHO.

I really need a road bike for the riding I do these days, and that's with a great MT bike trail system behind the house. I just can't ride like that anymore.

Sorry my techno skills are not good so I am late to the party. It is a sad day for me to read some of the responses here to this video. This man could be a 'dad' walking into a school, a patron walking into a bar, just really anybody in America. It is frightening to me to see the power that can be packed so easily. To say this is not possible is to lie to oneself and the community.

Unloaded, and locked up with multiple locks even though I have a conceal carry permit.

High powered semi auto rifles are not a good choice for home protection even though I have used mine to protect my renters sheep herd once from coyotes.

But assuming they could not be resold/traded for newly made or imported handguns, cet. par would be more safe. Not just based on current criminal usage stats, because plenty of gun crimes simply use whatever cheap Saturday night special is available and would gladly switch to shiny new UBRs given the chance, but rather because concealment and ease of use are essential for some gun crimes and yard of plastic and steel is a bit harder to hide and handle than a snub .38.

Rifles in general - whether bolt-action or semi-automatic - make up for a small amount of the daily gun violence. They're slightly more powerful than handguns but much more difficult to transport and to conceal. Good luck trying to stuff an AR15 down your waistband. Rifles are generally also more expensive.

Rifles are much harder to conceal- on a person, in a car, in a home, anywhere else.

A robber is far less likely to carry a rifle that keeps both of their hands full to use:

Most gun crime is gang or drug related- about 80%. Those kinds of criminals want a small easy to conceal weapon and almost always are found with handguns. You can't easily tuck an AR-15 in yor waistband and use it- yes I know there are pictures but the reality is its unwieldy and you can't do it with a magazine in. You can't stash it in your center console or under the seat.

I'm not accurate enough to hit a barn with an AR-15, but I'm pretty good close range with a shotgun. That will take care of a bad guy entering my house.
