Three suspects in fraud cases plead not guilty (CO)

Three men indicted by a Grand Junction grand jury on a host of fraud-related charges in Mesa, Delta and Douglas counties have pleaded not guilty and will face jury trials later this year ... in an interconnected case that the Department of Justice alleges involved the defendants attempting to swindle a combined total of more than $29 million from various banking organizations and the federal government ...

Assistant U.S. Attorney Pete Hautzinger, one of the federal prosecutors involved in the case, said in a hearing last week that Hutson and Scott were both adherents to the “sovereign citizen” movement, whose members generally don’t recognize federal or state government authority.
