I read the news today oh boy - BREXIT and why we should pay attention and be worried

Fear and hatred is palpable, quantifiable, and out in the open
This vote shows us that as much as we try to ignore the "old ways" as being overridden by demographics they are out there and they vote. Trump is going to latch onto this and frankly he should. Nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd. This says to many that "Hey! There ARE people like me out there!" Not just at the rallies here but now, oddly, the insulated feel they have international brothers. From LePage's showing in France to Trump to now BREXIT (other examples I am sure) fear works.

Media - it's in TV!!!
This ties in with attracting a crowd. Pretty people telling you something works too. AND at the same time you have people who've been convinced by their media that everyone else is lying to them.

New boss same as the old boss
Farage can sell this as a reaction to internationalism and a blow to the banks and monied powers but it really is just his fear lead operation getting their hand in the pot. nothing changes but with the media's help he wil convince the fearful that "the money people" (heard that before?) are the ones screwing you over.

Domestically your 401k is going to take a hit today. "Uncertainty" will be blamed but really the extra hand in the pot or the new player at the table makes the odds change for those already in the game.

Ch ch ch Changes
Conventional wisdom politically has been that unless there is a huge event (usually cited are a really big terrorist attack or a big economic down turn) the American voters will basically stay the course and the Democratic nominee will win. Easily. THIS could be that big event. A short amount of time will tell.
Trump will latch onto this. He is in Scotland right now on a "campaign stop" Had the vote been to Remain he would rail against it - now that's it's Leave he will take credit for it. The reporters who paid him $10K to fly on his plane and cover this event will do their duty and report it as such.

The consequences, felt mostly by those who voted to Leave, whether sooner or later will mostly be ignored as we will have been lead to another non-news story.

4. It isn't against the "establishment", it is against the elite

The elite have bought their global dream without regard for the wishes of the masses. Right here in the US NAFTA, GATT, and now TPP are almost universally opposed by the masses of common people, but are being bought through by the elite against the wishes of the people. If NAFTA, GATT, or TPP were ever put to a vote, all would fail completely. They have all been put into place without regard for the populace. The Democratic party has traditionally been the labor party, the voice of the people...until they sold out to the same masters as the thugs. There is no representation for labor and common people...this isn't sustainable without oppression...

9. I equate the two

And you are completely correct in my opinion.

The difference, to me, is that they just sell fear with no proposal for remedy. We at least offer ideas of how to change it....well we did at one point.

7. He doesn't, he benefits if it causes a global recession.

Economic trouble always hurts the party in power. In this case, that's the Democratic Party, in the US.

10. Depends on what locus of power you're referring to

Democrats have had NO legislative power for the past six years. The obstructionists have been in charge, and they still look bad.

However, if you're talking about the executive, then, yes, I agree. Regrettably, I think this will be an enormous boost for The Stupid.

They barely pay attention to what's going on right here in their own country let alone in Europe.

then it is amazing we paid no attention to it until right before the vote.

No one has proven their allegations about the effects.

Unfortunately, too many here in the US are still buying into the "sky will fall!" propaganda regurgitated daily by our corporate-owned politicians and their lapdogs in the corporate media.

We did quite well for a couple of centuries before the entire nation got taken over by Wall Street, thank you.

I hope he spends more and more time in Europe trying to obtain their votes...

Yeah, the bottom line to this is Trump winning seems more real today than yesterday because the same forces that drove Brexit are driving Trump.

The only way this would be better is if he forced reporters to take a picture of themselves with the cardboard cutout Trump.

15. He's actually calling this a campaign trip
Fri Jun 24, 2016, 01:01 PM

thus the reporters and he held a press conference about the campaign but mostly used it to talk about his golf course. As absurd as that is, it's weirder because the people who can afford to go there are being marketed to anyway.
