IMF warns the US over high poverty

IMF warns the US over high poverty

BBC

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-36599316

"SNIP............

The fund said about one in seven people were living in poverty and that it needed to be tackled urgently.

It recommended raising the minimum wage and offering paid maternity leave to women to encourage them to work.

.............

However Ms Lagarde warned that "not only does poverty create significant social strains, it also eats into labour force participation, and undermines the ability to invest in education and improve health outcomes".

"Our assessment is that, if left unchecked, these four forces - participation, productivity, polarisation and poverty - will corrode the underpinnings of growth and hold back gains in US living standards," she added.

It's in the platform, though the language behind it isn't as strong as it could - should - be.

It's better then nothing I suppose, but that's a small comfort to people living in minimum wage poverty.

15. $15/hr for a family of 3 or 4 doesn't go very far,

especially if the employer intentionally keeps workers under 40 hours/week.

$15.00/hour doesn't go far for a single person.

Union breaking, defunding education, high rates of incarceration and a reduction in civil liberties that includes the passing of Citizens United.

High poverty and ignorance are the goals.

After all there are other ways to own people and one of them is to force them to live at the edge of if not in poverty so that they are pretty much at your mercy.
Walmart and alot of the retailers have been using this method more and more to keep their employees in line over the years.
