Coach runs onto court during basketball game, assaults 12-year-old girl and knocks her unconscious

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A man who served as an assistant coach of a girls basketball team will have to appear in court after being accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl on an opposing team.

According to court documents, it happened on Sunday, May 6, at the MidAmerica Sports Center on Watterson Trail, near Bluegrass Parkway, during an AAU matchup between the Louisville Lady Legends and the Jeffersonville 'Lil Devils.

"During a basketball game, there was a physical altercation between at least two players of opposing teams," police say.

That's when 39-year-old Adrian L. Franklin, an assistant coach for the Jeffersonville 'Lil Devils, allegedly ran onto the floor and "intentionally" kicked a 12-year-old girl -- a player on the opposing team -- in the head.

Police say her head struck the floor and she was knocked unconscious.
