Less than a week after the Supreme Court's major abortion ruling in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt, related restrictions across the country began falling like dominoes.
And that's just the beginning, according to advocates for abortion rights, who say their victory at the court will both strengthen existing efforts to beat back such laws and offer them a new set of tools for future challenges.
"I suspect that we're just seeing the tip of the iceberg," said Janet Crepps, senior counsel at the Center for Reproductive Rights, which represented the victorious Texas abortion clinics before the Supreme Court. "This opinion is going to have long term ramifications and ripple effects in current cases and cases we'll be bringing."
Since Monday, laws restricting abortion and non-abortion Planned Parenthood funding have already been temporarily or permanently wiped out in six states. The Center for Reproductive Rights filed a new case Friday challenging a whopping seven of Louisiana's new abortion restrictions. And on the heels of Whole Woman's Health, Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced an effort to pursue repealing laws in eight states through legislatures. (Even lawmakers hostile to abortion may prefer the less expensive option of repealing a law, rather than having to defend one that is unlikely to stand after the Supreme Court's decision.)

(51,076 posts)We done fought and won these battles once. With the 'CONs you have to keep fighting every single day though as they don't take no for an answer. Fucking shitasses
If they don't want to have an abortion, then don't. If they don't want to have a gay marriage then don't but fuck off on trying to make me live in that narrow window of a world. Fuck a bunch of republiCONs and the fucking white horses they rode in on. Actually we need to ride them out of this country on a rail shortly after we tar and feather their sorry asses. IMO
I'm a straight guy but I stand with the women of this country 100% That goes for my gay brothers and sisters too.

A woman should have unfettered access to an abortion - it's her body and her decision!

(51,076 posts)she nor I were in a position to take care of a child so we decided to abort. I've never looked back as I know we did the right thing. Me fresh home, bug nuts from war, being exposed to agent orange for 15 months and didn't want to take a chance on it. It was a smart decision on our part. We're still friends today as we know we did the right thing at the time.
It was a choice we had to make and it was the right choice we made. Simple as that.
You know sometimes those hormones or whatever has no conscience and before you know it you've forgotten to wrap it. Its a fact of life.

The bedroom busybodies certainly still think so, but the rest of us don't.
I have a friend who, every so often, mumbles "baby-killers" under her breath. She now knows better than to do that around me. She was ranting about it one of several times, awhile ago, and the conversation somehow got around to how it applied to her own daughter (who's old enough to be on her own and yes, able to make her own decisions about everything including her own body). And I had to say "... and who gets to make that decision? Some men in Washington who neither know or care about her circumstances or her well-being? Some priest or American mullah who won't bother to contribute to help raise that unwanted baby or maybe adopt it, and rages on about how his taxes are too high?"
Who gets to make that decision - for her?
Shouldn't it be she herself who gets to make that decision?

(60,159 posts)Was chairman of our county Pro-choice group, all this way back in early 70's in my state.
I truly do not believe in telling other people how to live their lives
and mandatory pregnancy, decided by mostly men, really pissed me off.
Outlawing contraception PLUS mandatory pregnancy has nothing to do with medicine and has everything to do with patriarchal domination.
Or, as they are calling it today, dominion.

(24,207 posts)I completely trust women to make their own decisions with their own bodies. This is great for America and for freedom.

(7,811 posts)of course with Walker, the WI AG and a Supreme Court all bought and paid for. It might take a little more time and if history is any indicator several million additional taxpayers dollars to have the AG fight the SCOTUS decision.

(5,276 posts)Like I think Rosie O'Donnell said, if men could get pregnant abortion clinics would be on every corner like 7-11s.
Religious zealots are out of control in general, an amazing percentage of people believe the earth and the universe is only 5 or 6 thousand years old. That is more than provably way, way false but they still believe that, they have suspended their rational thinking.

(16,478 posts)But it's going to take a lot of time. The clinics may need new licenses, staff, and buildings.
