"We hereby grant Americans the Right to Ignorance." - Congress, Inc.

The tragically flawed, corporately designed GMO-labeling bill passed a cloture vote on Wednesday evening, and thus seems certainly headed for passage.

The legislation will mandate GMO labeling nationwide but allow food companies to choose between using symbols, electronic codes, or packaging language—totally inaccessible, complex and confusing methods that will certainly frustrate and baffle consumers. The bill will also undo Vermont's landmark labeling law, which went into effect July 1.

"The action aimed to highlight the fact that senators who took money from biotechnology giants like Monsanto are voting against majority public opinion, as recent polls have found that roughly 90 percent of Americans want labels on GMO foods..."

A Flawed Approach to Labeling Genetically Modified Food

"...While most scientists say that genetically modified foods do not pose a risk to human health, consumers should have a right to more information about what they are eating. Polls have found that a vast majority of Americans favor mandatory labels.

"Dozens of countries, including all 28 members of the European Union and Australia, already require similar disclosures..."
