Texas, Open Carry, NRA problem now.

The NRA is always saying..If everyone carried a gun the good guys would take care of the bad in a active shooter situation.

Point 1: Texas being a open carry state, did a "good" guy off the street take out the alleged snipers tonight?

Point 2: If everyone can open carry in Texas how do you tell who is the good guy from the bad if they both have guns?

Think this is something the NRA will have to answer too next time they call for everyone to have a gun.

"Shit happens. - Next. "

And that's about all you'll get from them.
Taking moral responsibility is not their strong point.

The police were able to identify a black man with an "assault rifle" was not the bad guy. He didn't get shot.

There is a video of him handing the rifle over to police; the officer tells him how he can recover his rifle later.

The man who was open carrying fit the description almost exactly of the shooter. I was listening to the scanners at the time and they were looking for a black man with a black top, and camo pants, wielding a rifle; they had the actual shooter pinned down in the garage, but at the time it was thought there were multiple shooters.

This man was unfortunate enough to be carrying a rifle (in both a BLM and 2A demonstration) at the wrong time. If he had inserted a magazine and attempted to intervene (i.e. good guy with a gun) when there were literally hundreds of cops already on-scene, what do you think would have happened?

Instead, he chose the prudent/smart course of action and met with police to clear his name in a very chaotic situation.

I fully support his actions, both pre, and post shooting.

Good guys with a gun do stop shooting situations, but they typically don't do it hours after the first shot, when hundreds (if not thousands) of police are on scene.

Regardless of your skin color, or really most any factors of the situation, it's intellectually dishonest to assume police in a mass force would graciously welcome the help of uncoordinated civilian vigilantes hours after they've set up a perimeter; let alone a guy who fits the description of who they're looking for at a time when intelligence is flowing in at an unimaginable rate.

There's a time limit on the non-police "good guy with a gun" message.

Do you honestly believe a white guy with a gun strapped on his back would have been the victim of this viral photo share?

Really? Come on now.

If he almost exactly fit the description of the shooter that police were looking for. I honestly (and strongly) believe this hypothetical white person would have been in the exact same situation.

If you fit the description of someone who's shot 11 police officers in a short period of time, and the only guy open carrying a rifle at the event, you're likely going to be questioned.

If you were the police, how would you have handled the situation differently? Please expand on how they went wrong.

I was listening to multiple scanners, and watching CNN at the time. They were looking for a black man, with a black top, and camo pants, open carrying an AR-15 at the time.

Why would the ONE GUY IN THE ENTIRE PROTEST who fit the exact description, photographed leading up to the shooting, not be at least questioned?

I ask again, given the circumstances, how else would you have handled the situation?

He handled it perfectly, in my opinion. That said, I NEVER think "open carry" is smart, in any situation.
