Judge lambasts Armani in domain name ruling
A Canadian artist has won the right to the www.armani.com domain, following a remarkable hearing at arbitrator WIPO.
The case is unusual in that, despite the clothes chain's lawyers insisting the artist had no legitimate right to the domain, a WIPO judge disagreed since the artist's name is Anand Ramnath Mani - shortened simply to A. R. Mani.

(62,444 posts)Gosh, what could I be thinking.
How about we publish a picture of someone's license plate, spread it all over the internet, and call them a Nazi, when we don't have the first fucking clue why "AARYANS" appears on that license plate.
Oh, and then we'll bitch and moan about intrusive government snooping when we don't have someone's identity to fuck with.
The "NOBAMA" comment is transparently silly to any but those with some kind of cognitive impairment. The point in relation to the OP, however, is that people do have unusual names.
Aaryan is a common Indian surname, but, hey, let's just assume the car belongs to a Nazi.

(14,180 posts)we allowed to advocate for keying of motor vehicles if the vehicle in question is patently offensive?

(62,444 posts)Some guy named "Ryan" wanted his name on a vanity plate, but because "Ryan" was taken, he stuck two A's in front of it, and you find that patently offensive.
On what basis do you conclude that the owner of the car has a racist bone in his body?

(12,554 posts)My hubby once ordered a personalized license plate with an obscure combo of letters and numbers indicating his geeky hobby. He didn't realize, until someone later pointed it out, that the combo could also be interpreted as a come-on to men for sex.
Needless to say, he got rid of THAT license plate in a flash.

(10,960 posts)because someone saw it and complained that it was offensive. True story.
But the fucking "Choose Life" plates from the state sell like hot-cakes.
But, of course, Virginia is tough on vanity plates... I don't think they'd allow any sensible abbreviation of their own famous "Virginia is for Lovers" motto. I suspect VAG LVR and VRGN LVR would both be blocked.
