(3,332 posts)I see no indication that the original user makes copyright claims to the image. Neither do the websites that use it make any claims or attributions.
I'm not sure why the obsession with another political board's choice of icon.

(60,320 posts)A creator owns the copyright the instant it is created (subject to employment contracts which may instill the ownership just as instantly to the employer).
You don't have to "make claims".
You won't be able to find a credible link that says something is public domain until claimed.

There has always been commentary about Freepers.
Nothing has changed. I see no problem with this OP.

Edit - Odds are it originated from on years release of "The Distribution and Synopsis of Ecological and Silvical Characteristics of Tree Species of British Columbia", given the similar styles.
Still though, for not liking that site you seem to have a rather unhealthy obsession with it.
