that are either pills or powder. You can recognize pot, magic mushrooms, coca leaves, even hashish and raw opium. Refined street drugs are much more difficult to source because it's all black market.

Until the late 80s. One of the effects of the War on Drugs is adulterated street drugs -- heroin cut with fentanyl, MDMA cut with bath salts, etc.

And MDMA is, in and of itself, fairly safe as far as drugs go. Most of the deaths attributed to it are heat-related deaths, caused by overexertion.
