Billionaire GOP megadonor Sheldon Adelson refused Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) entry to his suite at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night after the Texas senator declined to endorse Donald Trump in his speech, CNN reported.
Senior Adelson aide Andy Abboud confirmed to CNN that his boss had invited Cruz to visit with him and his wife Miriam, but turned him away at the door after he stunned the audience at Quicken Loans Arena by urging voters to vote their conscience in November.
"When he didn't endorse, they were stunned and disappointed," Abboud told the network.
"We could not allow Ted Cruz to use the Adelsons as a prop against Donald Trump," he continued. "The Adelsons support Donald Trump and made that clear. They like Ted Cruz, but there was no way the Adelsons were going to be the first stop after not endorsing. That would be disrespectful to our nominee."

(26,177 posts)Did he think that by not endorsing, people would suddenly spring to their feet, lift him onto their shoulders and declare him to be the Savior of the GOP??
These people really confuse me.

(58,785 posts)Are you forgetting that both Trump and the party are going to lose, and probably more than just the White House? There will be great rage, but the bigger the loss the worse it'll be.
There are 2 big differences between Trump and Cruz:
* Trump would do dreadful damage to the U.S. at home and abroad by accident. Cruz would do it on purpose.
* Trump is an astonishingly ignorant, effectively very stupid narcissist. Cruz is an extremely well educated and brilliant sociopath.
One guess which is likely to be the bigger problem in the long run. Our biggest hope of avoiding that is something Cruz does have in common with Trump: A dysfunctional tendency to self destruction.

(82,849 posts)It's just weird reading the comments (never read the comments) to the reports from the convention. About a third gloat that the spectacle is appalling, a third deny that anything untoward is happening, and a third seem divided between really bat crap crazy and yes, it only looks like a shitshow, but it really shows how swell the Republicans are. Are these people watching the same spectacle?

(5,156 posts)Until very recently - days perhaps, the Adelsons were pro-Cruz, and were holding out against Trump.
Obviously, someone got to the Adelsons and changed their minds.
The Adelsons are strongly pro-Israel in thinking and donating.
Their money has been urgently needed by the RNC to pay for the convention and RNC spending thereafter.
