I don't want to ask, but I'm gonna:
Who benefits by the very interesting timing of this "scandal"?

(65,616 posts)Rather quickly too. Putin wants Trump in the WH, he remembers how weak America was with Dubya and Cheney. So does China. How do we know Russian or Chinese trolls aren't writing these emails? We don't and should be cautious.

(27,818 posts)... strikes me as more of a stink-bomb that didn't pass the smell test.
Perhaps its release was premature - it was meant to be coordinated with the other planned event of no consequence: the Fart-In.
You'd think the stenchmongers would at least have synchronized their watches ...

(111,339 posts)Ours has had extensive damage control at the top and a fast response to any sort of embarrassing problem is the best bet for eliminating long term consequences. In our favor is the continuous drumbeat of fake scandal after fake scandal involving Clinton that have all come to exactly nothing. The faithful are losing faith fast.
Now his is another matter. Although the mass media are studiously ignoring his ties with Putin and the less than savory characters around him since nobody here is much interested in funding a serial bankrupt's run for high office, this is growing a few legs here and there in cyberspace. Maybe it will take off and maybe it won't but the squick factor is there, especially for knee jerk anti Russkies who are still fighting the Cold War.
This whole thing is fascinating. We are living the Chinese curse, that's for sure.
