(7,632 posts)Was just on a jury for nude, but strategically-pixelated, photo shoot of Melania Trump from the N.Y. Post. It was actually appropriate and newsworthy, and not fully nude. Which is allowable if a GRAPHIC CONTENT warning is posted.
And I've been on juries every day for weeks, but if it cleans up the content to a higher standard I can be of help. But not for winning arguments, leave that nonsense on Facebook. LOL

(21,061 posts)I would also be getting the pictures, videos, etc. forwarded by websites she followed. On Valentines Day there was a forwarded photo of what I thought was a big heart-shaped cookie. When I put on my glasses, I realized that it was a pair of testicles creatively arranged to look like a heart.
My daughter, thought it was hysterical and then opened her own itunes account the same day.

(11,841 posts)Yes, there needs to be more. NOT banning the terror watch list people from buying is one of the most obvious ones.
Although the "91 a day" number is accurate, 2/3 of those are suicides in any given year.
And while some new laws may have an impact to some extent, the guns are already here. Look at the countries with the worst murder-by-gun rates; they also have strict gun laws.
Venezuela outright banned them several years ago, yet they have one of the highest murder rates in the world
Once the cat (gun) os out of the bag, its hard to put them back in. If guns were made illegal to own, hardly anyone would turn them in. And i doubt many would be in favor of becoming a police state to search every house for them.

(1,717 posts)Especially the utterly bogus claim that across nations high levels of gun violence correlates with
strict gun laws. That assertion is both false and ridiculous.
Your "movement" has turned this country into a shooting gallery.
I'm a veterans, and decided long ago that (1) guns, nukes, Abrams tanks, etc.
do not keep us safe, and (2) guns are for cowards.
7962
(11,841 posts)Simply look up the stats for yourself. The murder rates in those countries are what they are. VZ did ban guns several years ago; crime rate has spiked since. Obviously the entire country is a disaster, but the fact remains. And you're welcome to look up the gun laws in Honduras, Columbia, etc, where the crime/murder rates are high. Most of those with the HIGHEST rates also have very restrictive gun laws.
Hey, I'm a vet too,as the past 4 generations of my family. You dont want to own a gun thats fine.
"Guns are for cowards", just a cop-out line. Your 1st point implies that our military doesnt keep us safe. Well, we all have the right to believe whatever we want, regardless of the realties of the world today.
FairWinds
(1,717 posts)thank you for your civil response.
I should have clarified that comparing Honduras and Venezuela
to the US is not appropriate at all.
We need to compare US gun violence and laws to other
DEVELOPED nations - when you do that, the difference is stark.
And I should point out as well that the US Govt. is responsible for
some of the civil violence in both Honduras and Venezuela - in both
cases by arming right wing thugs.

(4,187 posts)Seeing the results constantly keeps you focused on the hiding of posts. When you don't see the results, you're focused on reading, listening, and learning. Why do you even need to know how others are voting, if you're voting the way you feel is right?

(16,413 posts)jury system let you comment. The reason it was taken away a sometimes jurors would attack the alerter or use it to attack the poster of the juried post. Then the comments would be cause for more division and angst. I for one am glad jurors can't comment.
ProfessorGAC
(76,706 posts). . .but i think the best change is that the poster that wrote the "offending" (or not) post is anonymous. Helps to prevent alert stalking and jury targeting.

(5,082 posts)They post 24/7. No 6 hr sleep break. That's because they aren't people per se. They are an account. A profile managed by many different people depending who's shift it is. A profile can have up to 20 people working with it. Online opinion management first became popular for business online reviews. Either to prop up your own product or to discredit a competitor. It happens in my industry all day every day. I'm sure it has manifested anywhere where there is money at stake from government contracts to consumer goods.

(15,526 posts)So much of the internet is full of right-wing hate and trolling. It's easy for them to take control of forums after awhile because reasonable people lose hope of having meaningful discussions and debates with them.
I basically develop Jerry Seinfeld's attitude shown at the end of this old SNL skit:
