We need to revive the Public Option, and pay for it with a combination of premiums and

a federal consumption tax on certain non-survival goods e.g. cigarettes, alcohol, fast food, and soft drinks, etc.

Premiums should be based on your income. The higher your income, the higher your premium. People with low incomes would have their premiums subsidized with the national sales tax.

Healthcare professionals would be compensated at a lightly higher rate than Medicaid/Medicare to attract providers to accept this insurance.

Said it from the beginning. Not surprising insurance companies are now trying to back out. It is bad news for ACA and the public option is the only way this is truly going to work.
