(4,246 posts)2: Review every political fact-checking source & both SBS & HRC are honest & that's verifiable so FUCK NO I don't see it as necessary to make SBS do ANYTHING other than reinforce HRC as the right choice for prez.
3: I wanted HRC to release her speeches to wall st. I fucking grew up when faced with the possibility of a trump presidency and no longer give 2 fucks about her speeches.
4: Hopefully this thread will be locked for the shit it is.

This was never an issue for me.

(47,209 posts)Suddenly the rules change and they don't have to disclose? It's totally unfair and damaging to the Dem candidate. Disappointing.

(24,808 posts)were Sanders to release his taxes, as he promised.
By not releasing them, Trump can point to Sanders and use his nonrelease as an excuse.
Not a yuge issue at this point, but definitely a missed opportunity to drive home the unity message that the Ds are the transparent political party.

His surrogates offer Trump as an alternative to "establishment insider political corruption."
Two out of the last three viable national candidates refused to disclose their Federal taxes.
Very bad precedent.
Of course, the one who did release her taxes is the next President of the United States. Maybe there are consequences?

(4,246 posts)So if MOM hasn't released his disclosure or any of the old gop candidates haven't disclosed AFTER losing the nomination it gives trump cover to not release HIS returns?

(47,209 posts)Thing that could result in him losing a ton more voters. And that totally sucks. He should be a mensch and release them and challenge DT to do so too. It makes it seem like it's okay to hide that info- and it is not.

(68,868 posts)Certainly during the primary this sort of thing was valid for litigating. One could even argue that, yes, it would have been better if he had done so.
But, water under the bridge.

I don't think Bernie gives a rats about that cosmetic jive. He IS a man of honesty and integrity.
The OP is reliving the primary and in so doing deserves to be deleted.

(13,340 posts)... number of us CALLED IT.
He knew he was going to lose and wanted to avoid the disclosure of potentially embarrassing information. Same this with his taxes. All that BS about them "not being done," was a delaying tactic.
Now let me be clear. I don't really care. I think sanders is honest and sincere, and I think he means what he says as far as his policies go (though I disagree with him on a number points there).
But I do think that like a lot of folks, he and his wife have managed some level of success, and I REALLY suspect that Jane got a sweet deal when she left the presidency of that college she ran. That could potentially have hurt his message, and he wanted to avoid it, IMO.
But at the end of the day? Meaningless.

(8,185 posts)How Bernie Sanders beat the clock and avoided disclosure
...But when federal law required Sanders to reveal, by mid-May, current details of his personal finances, his campaign lawyer asked the Federal Election Commission for a 45-day extension.
Request granted.
On June 30, Sanders campaign requested a second 45-day extension, saying the senator had good cause to delay because of his current campaign schedule and officeholder duties.
Again, regulators approved Sanders punt.
Now that Sanders second extension has expired, spokesman Michael Briggs confirmed to the Center for Public Integrity that the senator wont file a presidential campaign personal financial disclosure after all.

He legally doesn't have to file this but if he wants to maintain his persona as the man of honesty and integrity he will. Do you think it's reasonable to expect transparency from Bernie?
