Something was wrong with my credit card statement, so I went back through the transactions and found a donation to Act Blue at the end of July for $550. I'm a retiree on Social Security. I don't make donations of that size to anybody. And I don't donate to Act Blue--only to specific Democratic candidates. I just got off the phone with my credit union and made a fraud claim. I'm left with a question: if someone's going to steal my card number, isn't it odd that it would be used for a political organization? Fraudsters generally use if for themselves. Any thoughts?

(846 posts)The candidate Catherine masto running for senate in Nevada uses actblue. Maybe you accidentally put in the wrong amount
Here is a sample email from Masto
Grassroots supporters like you are stepping up to help us hit our goal, but we cannot let up now! Time is running out before our fundraising deadline, and the ONLY way we'll win in Nevada and take back the Senate is if you give right now:
TIME IS RUNNING OUT: Give $5 or more now to win in Nevada, take back the Senate and protect the future of the Supreme Court!
If you've saved payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

(5,417 posts)You could go to donate to one candidate, but on the statement it comes across as actblue, since they process the payment. At the same time a 50 dollar donation could have been mistyped as 550.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
