I have a friend, probably my best friend. A 68 year old, white male who is semi-retired and very well off. He loved Trump from the beginning of his campaign. As you can imagine, we argued a lot. He actually admitted to me he's a bigot. Anyway, I would ask him, during the 16 months of the campaign, what the fuck do you like about this guy? His answer, "he's not a politician, he tells it just like it is. He doesn't speak from a teleprompter, he speaks right from his heart. He's not politically correct. He's self-funded, so he doesn't owe anything to anybody if he gets elected. He's going to throw all the illegals out. After all, Louis, what part of 'illegal' don't you understand".
I had lunch with him on Monday. I know he would never vote for Hillary, but I asked him "what do you think of your guy now?" "Woody Johnson, from Johnson and Johnson, and the owner of the hated Jets, heads up his political funding operation. He now reads exclusively from a teleprompter and his position on immigration is Jeb Bush's position. He's just another politician, except he's unqualified. You still with him?" His answer, "No. I'll be in Florida on November 8. I was going to get an absentee ballot, but now I'm not. As it turns out, he's no different than the rest of those bastards."
I was wondering, has anyone else here experienced the same type of interaction from Trump supporters?

It can be used so many ways

(11,911 posts)Id say all but one of my conservative FB friends say they still plan on voting for him.
Just pulled into a campground in Emerald Isle, NC, last night. I have never seen so many Trump signs and stickers. All on permanent sites and houses on the way on to the island. Just can't fathom so many stupid people. Until arriving here, our total count for visible Trump support was around 47. This place put it up to 88, and we haven't had a chance to drive around the beach areas yet.

(13,340 posts)Stickers all over his truck (the HOA does not permit political yard signs). But this morning, I noticed they were all gone, except for one mostly covered by black tape.

(11,843 posts)said last night he would not vote for Trump. I don't think there are many rational Republicans that will. All Trump has is the rabid, TEA party types that would die if Limbaugh told them they didn't have to breathe.

I don't believe any of them will be voting this year. None will vote for Hillary, but they seem to find Trump painful.

(7,723 posts)It's hard to see her and her husband and mother not voting for Trump at this point. They are die-hard supporters.
Her Facebook profile pic shows her kid wearing a Trump hat. If she changes that pic, then I'll have some idea that her mind has changed.

(111,245 posts)so if that asshole has any real fans around here, they're not going to admit it to anybody around them.
Your pal is well off and educated enough to see through some of this stuff. People who haven't had his chances are furious at the party that let them down for so long, so their support for Trump will remain strong. They know he'll be a rotten president, they're counting on it. They want this rotten system wrecked from the top down and Trump is just ignorant and clumsy enough to do it.
I think the softening of support among wealthier bigots is due in a large part to Trump's asking for campaign cash, "What? He said he was going to fund this thing with his own money! Why the hell is he asking me if he's got ten billion bucks?" That's just a guess but it's an educated one.

(17 posts)Yeah - the Trumpeters I know aren't that into him as much. Some of my family that supports him just lost interest in it - I can't say what it was. I'm not sure that they'll vote - some of them just plan on sitting it out.
Isn't amazing that an "outsider" could be more corrupt than career politicians?
Frankly speaking - I think the anger and outrage people have right now is unfounded in many ways. I get anger of school debt, low paying jobs, the environment, poverty etc..
But anger at muslims, latinos and the lgbt community is just evidence of deep seated bigotry.

(11,795 posts)One of the kids I'm working with. Twenty something. Was three of us smoking outside the hotel. I said something derogatory about Trump and he was like, "Hey now. "
I said, "Hey now my ass! That fucker ain't qualified to run a political convention. It's been proven after that shit show. Vote for who you want to man, but you're being scammed. Sarah Palin all over again. "
So he heard me talk shit about Trump for a few days. Monday came around, the clown was in the news, again.
For something sstupid, again. I started talking about it and he said, "That's it! I'm voting for Johnson! "
Alas, the Libertarian party has been getting their ass kicked this week.
