Police: Ithaca student fatally stabbed in 'large fight' at Cornellhttp://www.cnn.com/2016/08/28/us/cornell-ithaca-college-students-stabbed/index.html
(CNN)One Ithaca College student was killed and another was injured after being stabbed during a "large fight" on the nearby Cornell University campus early Sunday in Ithaca, New York, officials from both schools said. Cornell University Police were called to the intersection in front of Olin Hall, which houses Cornell's school of chemical and biomolecular engineering, just before 2 a.m. There, they found two men had been stabbed, according to a police news release. Police say the fight broke out after a student-organized event at Cornell, according to a statement from Ithaca College. <snip> First responders treated the victims, and police recovered the weapon used, the news release said. Efforts to obtain information on the suspect are ongoing, police said. One victim was sent to a local hospital for treatment of "serious injuries," while the other was flown to Upstate Medical Center, a regional trauma center, to be treated for several stab wounds. </snip>

1. I wonder why the police are being so secretive about what happened?

3. Police did not say what the event was, nor did they give out any of the identities.
Okay, I read it again, and saw that they named to stabbing victim who died. But still...

4. The event was apparently a gathering (probably a rush event or similar)
for Omega Psi Phi, a historically black fraternity.
Is this the part that you wonder why the police are not discussing in the article, as it is commonly available information. Surely, you're not suggesting that the Ithaca police are involved in some kind of conspiracy to hide the fact that this happened at a black fraternity event, are you? That would be super weird. |

5. Without knowing the additional details you added, I 1st thought it a
school thing. Institutions seem very protective of their reputations.
Sucks - school just started last week. ![]() |

6. You don't really get to hide a murder on the Cornell campus
When the emergency evac helicopter is landing on the Quad, the cat is more or less out of the bag.

8. If you are a gun-proliferation advocate, the headline should read:
"Fifty people not killed by a gun in a knife attack."

9. "Campus fight leads to (only) 1 death" Could have been worse - he could have been shot to death.
NY had another stabbing a couple months ago in a Shop Rite - only 1 guy died there too.
Guns are designed to kill. |

10. Both schools will have a hard time, especially if the stabbers were CU. Victims were IC.
There's always been a friendly rivalry in town between the 2 schools, but this will not be good if one campus blames the other. Not good at all.
This is a town in the middle of nowhere, and it's not known for crime. It's the most bohemian town I know in the northeast. This is not an inner city with a crime past. This will not be forgotten, ever. This will traumatize both campuses. |
