In the back of their truck and go down the road. Don't they know they are in America?

(2,550 posts)They love America.
I don't do it, but we have a big American flag outside our house.

(135,697 posts)It amazes me how raggedy those hanging from the backs of pickup trucks get. This passes for respect of the flag?
metroins
(2,550 posts)But I've only seen them on the road, not up close.

(16,799 posts)I don't believe they love America! What they love is their concept of what America should be! What about those who fly both the American and Confederate flags, side by side, do they love America, or their idea of what America should be!
And what of those who fly the Star and Stripes alongside the many variations of Nazi flags, do they love America, or their view of what America should be?
As a vet I don't believe that anyone who flies the American flag that is dirty and torn, is showing their love of America, they fly it to show off!
Do you keep your flag flying 24/7, if you do, do you maintain a light on it during the hours of darkness? Do you fly the correct flag in inclement weather, when you have to dispose of your flag, do you follow the proper procedures?

(2,550 posts)Then read yours. You're projecting so much into something that's not there and stereotyping.
All the OP says is people flying flags in their trucks.
I think it's patriotic.
And to answer your question, yes 24/7, yes a light on it, no I don't change it. I clean it, and Austin Texas doesn't have inclement weather. I don't change it when it rains.

I can't wait to see what patriotic contortions will be required in the future to prove our allegiance.

(38,054 posts)I think it is ignorant ball throwing as they usually have REALLY big tires on their trucks too (where I live) . . .
Me - I was raised right - so my flag at night has a sensor solar light on it.
You ever notice how at night they don't light up their flag in the back of their truck as is how it should be done? They never 'lower' it.

(52 posts)Have really been tattered and torn from the wind. And they usually have a yellow "dont tread on me " beside it.

(7,570 posts)I actually thought of going around town, taking pictures of these messed up flags, then posting them in a full page ad in the newspaper with a caption reading: "THE FLAG: TAKE IT SERIOUSLY, OR TAKE IT DOWN." It would be worth the expense just to hear heads blowing up all over town.
Seriously, would you hang your Sunday church clothes up in the back of your truck to get ripped and covered with mud and road grime? Of course not! These people have no fucking respect.

(3,284 posts)but then it is much better than flying a Trump flag.
I saw a guy in a big gas-guzzling Hummer with a HUGE Trump/Pence flag streaming behind it yesterday...

(27,834 posts)And I usually (and perhaps unjustly) tend to equate people who put those flags on their cars/trucks with people at Trump rallies who wear gaudy clothing made to look like they are covered head to toe in stars and stripes. Because of my bumper stickers, I won't park my car by them and I get a little uncomfortable if I see them in my rear view mirror.
I hope that doesn't make me a bad person.

(7,888 posts)Anyone remember the days when the flag was not to touch the ground, to remain in the rain, or displayed on a truck as a tattered symbol? Where did these people attend school? Surely, it was not a public school?
I object to the Eisenhower added words to the Pledge of Allegiance, "under God". It is my right to refuse to use them.

(61,194 posts)I realize this practice has gone on for some time, but these are the type of people who support Trump.
They feel that everyone in America is not American except for them. They are gun toatting white supremacists with coal rolling diesels who don't care what anyone this or what they are doing to the environment.

(6,675 posts)and hanging on flagpoles over night. My dad would spin in his grave as well. You don't leave a flag out overnight. You don't leave it hanging from a truck or car all tattered to pieces. That's my feeling.
