(In the two hours since this was posted the account has jumped from $285 to $522. If you donated, thank you! If you replied to this thread, thank you! If you recommended this thread, thank you! Every bit helps!)
I'm a long time member of DU and I've never actually asked for help of any kind, until today. I know the people involved and they really need help with paying for an unexpected funeral expense. He passed away last Sunday, leaving behind a daughter who is expecting her first child this fall (and no extra money around to help, a minor daughter who can in no way help, and absolutely no life insurance. I've given money but it's not enough. Right now he is still being held until they have enough for the cremation. The amount asked for isn't even for an actual funeral; it's just the cost of cremation. They live over an hour from the nearest crematorium and are being charged quite a bit for transportation expenses.

(I can also provide a link to the obituary in the local newspaper so you know it's all on the up-and-up.)
Even if you can't donate please help by kicking or bumping this thread. The more views the better the chance of others seeing and wanting to help.
Thank you.

(24,065 posts)Basic cremation should be a right. I am not a good one to ask because in Vermont laws are lax and I was able to cremate my husband for just a couple hundred dollars... so sad that this is a concern for so many...
a funeral can be very low cost or free with a gathering and celebration of life at someone's house or public place with a potluck ... tradition isn't always in the best interest of people

(30,096 posts)They only help city or county governments. Missouri has few resources, unfortunately.
Thank you for thinking about them in this time.

(3,931 posts)Anything helps right now. A teenager shouldn't have to worry about what's going on with her father's remains.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
