Don't smile. No major facial expressions. You avoid wrinkles longer, that way. Can't be seen or photographed smiling or with any kind of animated face.

I remember a long time ago, reading about Gina Lollobrigida, actress, socialite, model, one of many "it-girl" types, but exotic - with her Italian background. She never smiled. Always strictly avoiding any facial expressions. No laugh lines, no crows feet, no frown lines between the eyebrows, oh no, we must not have that!

Then again, once one gets into facelifting, it's a never-ending trudge up a hill that grows steeper and steeper. And there's a point where you've had your skin pulled and tightened so often that you wind up having no face at all. Hillary is not afraid to smile and look animated and let her eyes crinkle at the outer corners. Because she's real, and human, and genuine, and yes, authentic.

I once read an early book by Barbara Walters, while her biggest distinction was as co-host of the Today show and an increasingly influential interviewer. It was called "How to Talk to Practically Anybody About Practically Anything." There was one passage in there that has stayed with me for decades. She quoted from a friend who she thought just had it all together all the time, especially when meeting or hobnobbing with VIPs. This friend once confessed to Walters that she'd look herself in the mirror before she left for whatever event it was and she'd tell herself "I am the way I am. I look the way I look. I am my age."

I can't tell you how often I've done that myself. It helps! Some really good words-to-the-wise! It sort of centers you. Helps you remember YOUR reality.
