This is a textbook example of modern oppression - in this case racism. Old school oppression was much more overt - can't sit in the front of the bus, can't sit at the counter, can't vote. Modern is more covert and a key part is "blaming the victim". This leave the county message goes hand in hand with "doesn't Colin understand how lucky he is to be in america" and is the modern version of "go back to Africa"...as if that was a voluntary trip over.
