I get the feeling that any moment, the folks from "Sliders" are going to walk in and say something like "This is the world if JFK was killed in Dallas/RFK was killed in California/Nixon won re-election/Carter lost the 80 election/Bush won the 2000 election..."
And his cohorts shudder, thinking about the implications of those events...

(22,308 posts)It was always just one change. Most alternate universe stories do that so they can explore the implications of that one event.
Of course they never write about the universe that is identical to ours except for one quark that is a different phase out in a distant galaxy somewhere, or the one with that other quark out of phase. Or even the ones where maybe two particles are slightly different than ours. (Can you tell I have no respect for multiverse theories other than as interesting fiction?)
If you like this kinda stuff you should read "The Number Of The Beast" by Heinlein.
*spoiler alert*
In that book you think that the people traveling between universes are from our universe, until they get here. Then two start listing Presidents and they say "Kennedy, Kennedy, Kennedy...."
In their universe JFK wasn't killed. IMO one of the best paragraphs Heinlein ever wrote.

(14,721 posts)This is the universe where Spock won't just have a beard, he'll have a Mohawk.

If Dick Cheney was ever Vice President in your universe, this is how it turns out.
