Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you know why you're not seeing many Hillary yard signs or bumper stickers?
Actually, you know why already.
Hillary supporters won't slash your tires, or key your car, and none that I've ever heard will throw a brick through your window or try to run you off the road.
But thanks to the New Hate, we know some Trumpers have and will.
Forget stickers and signs. Stay safe and vote this asshole into oblivion.

(6,876 posts)East Tx and my 88yr old mom told me that I shouldn't do it. People around here are true trumpsters with everything that the term implies.
I decided against putting the sticker on the car, but I flip the bird every time I drive by the house down the street that has the "Killary For Prison - Lock Her Up" sign in their front yard. I'm always hoping they're looking out their window.

(12,132 posts)he was a Chief Warrant Officer but I have no idea how that shakes out in the hierarchy. He was a mechanic and proud to be one. I just remember thinking as a kid "Hey that's pretty cool. They saluting my grandpa!"
Of course he always has been and always will be one of my personal heroes so I just figure everybody should salute him.
A couple weeks ago he asked me to drive him out to the BX and it was kind of sad. He just wanted some shirts and a few groceries but I really think he was just thinking of shopping with grandma. He didn't get anything there he couldn't have gotten at his local Publix and the nearby Penneys. (The BX is a good 45 minute~hour drive depending on traffic). But he liked looking around the store - we went up and down every single aisle. On the way home he said "thanks for bringing me out here...I imagine that was my last trip there." (he's 95)
He and Grandma used to go every other week or at least once a month. But she's been gone a few years now and he really misses her. I worry that he's in a hurry to see her again - a) because I don't like thinking about a world without him in it and, b) I'm an atheist so I don't think he's gonna get see her again.
But there's nothing I won't do for that man so however he wants to play out his final years I'm here to help him.

(1,910 posts)Backed out of driveway with anti Trump stickers on back of minivan. There was a trash truck partially blocking road so I stopped. An SUV came up behind me and driver immediately started waving his hands. Then cut past me, zoomed by the trash truck, barely missing it and the worker.
Trash truck moved within 10 seconds so I started driving. The SUV was going super slow waiting for me. He kept hitting his brakes, then pulled onto the left side so I could get next to him. I stopped and asked him what was wrong and he went ballistic. Yelling I was an ahole. Then he kept saying "get out of your car so I can kick your ass".
He was a medium size, very obese guy, and I am rather tall and work out a lot. So it did not make sense. He kept telling me to get out of my car and come over. I asked him why he would risk jail for no reason, he swore and drove away.
Later it hit me why a guy would challenge someone to a fight they likely could not win. I then remembered Florida's Stand Your ground Law. That's why he kept telling me to get out of my car, yet he did not get out of his.
Had I approached him aggressively, he could have stood his ground and shot me because in Florida a vehicle is considered valid under the law, same as your house.
Never saw a gun....but nothing else makes any sense. This is the sickos we are dealing with.

(89,374 posts)I recall a NYTimes article a few months back, after the New York primary - where she blew EVERYBODY out, including the three remaining republi-CONS combined - Trump, Cruz, and Kasich. She got more votes than ANYBODY. It was so lopsided that Lawrence O'Donnell that night declared that "New York is NOT in play." And he was talking about the general election in the fall.
This story's reporter admitted to being surprised. This writer had spent weeks walking all over the district, noting, for example, a glaringly obvious indicator that it was a Bernie Sanders stronghold. There were yard signs, window placards, and bumper stickers GALORE - all over everywhere. The reporter noted that there were no such visible outward signs indicating support for Hillary. So, then, how did she win so resoundingly - in that same district? The reporter then realized that it was because Hillary supporters were under the radar. They didn't make noise. They didn't go blatant or obvious. They didn't pack any rallies. They didn't wear t-shirts or drive around with bumper stickers all over their cars. Nothing in any of their windows or front yards. All the Hillary supporters did was show up at the polls and make their preference count - THERE. There was a quiet, unseen, under-the-radar FLOOD of support for Hillary that this particular reporter completely missed. I might add - reporters from coast to coast missed it, too.
Maybe that's just how Hillary supporters are? Don't know. All I know, personally, is - during the primaries, I stayed under the radar myself. As did MANY women I encountered. At the checkout counter at our local grocery store, I closed my transaction with the usual smile, a "thank-you," and "don't forget to vote!" The woman nodded enthusiastically. I leaned in a little and mouthed "Hillary." She looked at me, glanced to one side and then another, as if to make sure she wouldn't be seen, and gave me a huge smile and nodded vigorously back at me. It was like - this was our little secret, or something. I saw that, personally, again and again and again. All over the place. Nobody seemed to want to be out in the open, but every one of 'em were fully behind Hillary.
It wouldn't surprise me if we see more of this in November. Especially considering the out-n-proud, hot-headed, nasty, in-yer-face offensive tactics of the Trumpsters. I need to point out here - Bernie supporters were NEVER openly hostile and confrontational like that. Not EVER. I NEVER saw that even in encounters with Bernie followers when a bunch of us went out canvassing for Hillary. Never met ONE who wasn't totally friendly and nice and not one bit hostile or insulting or menacing or in-yer-face. The Bernie supporters we met all said they would vote for Hillary in November, even though their hearts were elsewhere during the primary. And every single one of them was polite and congenial as can be.
It's the Trump people, totally, who already have their mad-on because they genuinely are pissed off that whites are slowly losing clout and they insist this should always be an Anglo-dominant country when in reality, it's changing! They're the ones who resent the hell outta that Black guy who's had the nerve to presume he could be President, when he's taken the job of a white guy who was "rightfully" more entitled to it. There's a HUGE discomfort in this country now, among those who hate the fact that the people of color AND women, too, who SHOULD "know their place" are no longer conforming "the way they used to" (or the way they used to HAVE TO). You kinda feel like you need to keep it to yourself around them, otherwise you might actually get hurt. Or find your tires slashed. WHICH, btw, I DID FIND, back during bush/cheney, when I had a Howard Dean sticker and a "bush KNEW" and a "War is Not the Answer" in my back window. My daughter borrowed my car and the tires went flat on her and it was clear they'd been slashed. She had to call us to come help and didn't want to wait alone for the Auto Club. She was spooked, too. So I took the stickers out. Don't really care about myself, but there's no way I would put my daughter in danger!
I also had some seriously angry middle-aged dude in a big ol' pickup truck on the freeway try to intimidate me - WHILE WE WERE DRIVING. He sped up in the lane next to me, and stayed alongside, trying to get my attention so I'd see his angry facial expression and his insulting gestures. He wanted me to know how much he hated how I felt from seeing my bumperstickers. He even pointed back toward them, to make it clear. It was rather upsetting. I finally started to slow up a little and sink back behind him, which I suspected he wouldn't want to do, even to stay side-by-side with me so he could continue to insult and threaten me. Finally, he gave up. Had to change lanes because his offramp was approaching. I stayed in my lane. But he was REALLY angry-looking, and bigger and beefier than I am, so I dread imagining what kind of confrontation might have erupted if we weren't on the freeway. It's easier to force somebody to pull over on surface streets than it is on the freeway. That was a most unnerving experience, gotta say.

(1,397 posts)Northumberland County VA is Republican territory. Our elections consistently go 60-40 Republican. Still, we Democrats are a close-knit, active bunch.
The Tea Party and county GOP have been busy papering the county with Trump-Pence signs. I just drove from home to building materials supplier 35 miles and two counties away. In my county there's a Trump-Pence sign every 1/4 mile, some closer. The FedEx guy who made a delivery to my house yesterday commented that he had not seen a SINGLE Hillary sign until he came to my house.
My first one was stolen. Well, actually some asshole poured flammable liquid on it and set fire to it one night about six weeks ago. I replaced it. I now sit on my porch from midnight until 1:30 - 2:00 AM on odd nights -- not every night, just random nights. I'm armed with a 100,000 candlepower spotlight, a Remington 12-gauge pump shotgun, and an AR-15 . . . all loaded. So far, I've had to pull the trigger on the spotlight twice . . . truck goes slowly down the road past my house, stops, turns around, switches off headlights and creeps up to my front yard. I wait to see the door open and someone get out and step into my yard then I light 'em up with the spotlight and chamber a round into the shotgun. You haven't lived until you've heard a round being chambered into a shotgun on a quiet, still night. Gets their attention. My sign stands untouched but it's a long time until the election.
My Clinton-Kaine bumper sticker on the back of my truck gets some attention, scowls, and middle fingers. I just smile, wave, and call back "Jesus loves you!!" Pisses 'em off big time. There is, of course, a .45 under the front seat.

When I say I 'try to catch a glimpse' I mean that. I have no desire to irritate evil people with anger issues whilst driving.

Pretty sad and not conducive to putting signs on your lawn, or stickers on your car.

(12 posts)They are hard to come by. I made two trips to my local Democratic office looking yard signs. Gave up and ordered them a week ago online from the campaign, making a significant contribution to UPS. I'm still waiting. The only HIllary sign I've seen in my neighborhood is from the primary.

There are lots of bumper stickers and signs at HER campaign offices, and they are free.

To be honest, there was a real nut case that lived across from my mother's apartment building and, if I hadn't already known who I wanted to vote for in a local race, I would have referred to his yard signs to know who not to vote for.
I wouldn't really expect them to have much influence in a presidential race.

(2,577 posts)I don't want to have my front yard turfed or vandalized. I don't want to deal with road rage from some toothless wonder with an old truck and a gun. (No, I'm not stereotyping. I check out the vehicles and drivers I see with Trump stickers.)
I live in Ohio--you know, the place that where the Daily Show interviewed all the bright (?) Trump supporters and home of the (former) Trump campaign chair whose brilliant interview in the Guardian has been ALL over Twitter today. Trump supporters are angry, uneducated, and afraid of change. Trump has brought the ugly boiling to the surface.

(48,932 posts)I've never put bumper stickers on my car, for just that reason, but in past elections I have worn Dem t-shirts or buttons, curious to see if any RWers were brave enough to say anything to my face. All I ever got were positive comments. This election, though, feels different. I have a Hill Yes shirt that I really like, but I haven't worked up the nerve to wear it out in public yet.

(45,806 posts)I take very good care of my car and so far it doesn't have a scratch or dent anywhere, and I want to keep it that way/ I've seen way too many vindictive acts take place around here to take the risk. I even refuse to talk about politics with any of my neighbors. I did it once. She's ae Trumpster and I said something like "If he gets elected, we're all in bit trouble." She abrubtly spun around and marched into her house and hasn't spoken to me since, and that was about 3 months ago.

(49 posts)I have bumper stickers and wear a tshirt every time I work out. I've never seen a Trump sticker here, a few yard signs (Atlanta suburbs). The only comments I get are positive. The other day a big older white guy with a big beard in a big truck was staring at me as I came out of a store. He yells "Hey!" at me and I'm thinking "oh boy". Then he says "I like your shirt" and gives me the thumbs up.

If someone steals or destroys one of my yard signs I'll just put another.... and another. After that I may have to booby trap the third sign. Also ordering a few Trump - Putin 'Make Russia Great Again' signs.
I'm not going to live in fear of a few knuckle dragging - one brain cell morons.

(6,452 posts)I don't see any enthusiasm for voting against Trump and for Hillary. It's more along the lines of "meh, don't care much for Hillary, but that fucking Trump guy is nuts". I wouldn't call that enthusiasm. Or least not a healthy enthusiasm.

I think there are more 'quiet' Hillary voters than quiet Donald voters.
I do enter data at HRC hq for my part. Headed there this coming Tuesday night. And, there are young people who come in to do phone calls. All ages represented. Young, middle, older (with me in latter category!).
