Many here heard my story of the crooked dentist that ripped me off. Well I have news.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/10028088949

Here is the original thread. Originally they were going to give me around $3,050 but they wanted $1,300 back for the last cap. I took him to small claims court and sued for the maximum which is $5,000. I just went yesterday and in arbitration they, (the ones from his office that he sent) offered me $5,000. Plus court costs.

I WON!!!!!!!!!! They have three weeks to send me a check for $5,350. I mentioned as we were leaving that if I didn't see it by then I was going to contact the attorney general, (thanks to the one who suggested that to me)

I encourage everyone to face "the big ones" that try to intimidate you.

They screwed up my mortgage and then tried to foreclose.
I sued. Didn't pay any mortgage for over 4 years.
I was deposed close to 7 hours.
When that was done, they decided to settle.

I had all the numbers on my side and they knew it.
Can't give the details, but I was given 6 figures.

BTW, Congrats!

....the first one unlawfully laid me off to make room for a much younger woman returning from maternity leave, age and gender discrimination. I was over 40 (protected class). After 18 months to the day I was brought back to work. One more day and I would have lost all seniority (and they would have been liable for MUCH more if I prevailed) About a year later we settled, just before the division was sold to the second big corporation.

Less than two months I was laid off again (by the same moron), we sued a day later for retaliation, and eventually settled again.

...by one of the biggest real estate companies in New York.

There were lots of things wrong (it was a renovated building) - doors missing and other things that I can't remember after all these years. Anyway, I kept asking them to fix the things, and they kept promising me (left me little notes "next week", "Monday", etc.) After six months I stopped paying rent. A couple of months later they gave me an eviction notice, which had to be resolved in court.

I took all their notes with me, and explained to the judge what had been going on. He told the landlord to fix everything, then turned to me and said "if it isn't all done in a week, let me know". They did the work in two days!!!

If you're in the right, you really can fight the big guys and win.

Glad it worked out for you.

I have now referred it to my lawyer. After months of promises broken and sob stories.

And I finally confronted a manager at work who screwed me over big time many years ago. Had the dept chair's blessing on that confrontation.

Wow! Must be the stars or something!

I had to do that with Jiffy Lube a few years ago. Their incompetence cost me a head gasket, and the store manager and district manager refused to pay up. I called the owner of Jiffy Lube personally and lodged a complaint. I made no threats, and spoke calmly the whole time. He refused to pay up.

So I took him to small claims court. The day before the scheduled court appearance, he sent a guy around with a check for the cost of repairs, and a request that I tell the judge that the matter was settled. I did. And I've never gone to Jiffy Lube since.

These hammerheads will never give in to polite requests and rational behavior. You've got to get them in the wallet.

I told my partner, hey now we can change our own oil. He looked at me like I was crazy.

Like a day later we go over to a friends house and he tells us how jiffy lube fucked his car up majorly. They didn't tighten the oil filter. At first the dealer said $400 bucks so jiffy lube agrees to pay. Dealer does repair. On the way over to get the check, the engine starts knocking like crazy. Jiffy lube is buying him a new engine.

I hear these stories all the time. Doing it myself from now on.

The profit motive in dentistry has ALWAYS made me feel like I'm getting taken for a ride. So now I get 2 or 3 opinions. Last month I got one treatment estimate and it ws $2000 more than the first one. I carefully went over the treatments and they didnt match several places. So I went with the cheaper one and they had higher Yelp rating anyway. But I found out they pay for customers to comment on Yelp too.
I did go to a state healh plan dentist once though and they didnt do a very good job. But they were so over-scheduled with poor people it took 2 or 3 months to get an appointmnt,

individuals, businesses and their insurance companies play the odds. When they come accross someone like you they usually fold.

More people should stand up when they are being screwed over. A lot of this crap would stop if they know they will be called out almost every time. It's like cops shooting unarmed black men, if they started to go to jail it would stop! When there is little to no penalty it only encourages them!
