The race is still on, every day of every year of our lives.
Global Citizen
Weve sacrificed, fought, campaigned, succeeded, been knocked back and succeeded again.
Women and girls have always faced hurdles, but thats never stopped us.
Thats the first line of a new short film titled Hurdles, narrated by Emma Watson. Created by social action platform Global Citizen, the two-minute film uses footage from the 1964 Olympic Womens Hurdles final in Tokyo to illustrate the inequalities women have had to overcome throughout history ― and are still fighting to overcome today.
Weve sacrificed, fought, campaigned, succeeded, been knocked back and succeeded again, Watson says.
From passing the Equal Pay Act in 1963 to injustices that women still struggle with today such as child marriage and sexual violence ― the clip is a rallying cry to people around the world to help in the fight for gender equality.

(16,104 posts)to point out voting for a woman is a big deal - since we don't really have a male alternative left?

(7,006 posts)I have ADD, so take this with that caveat.
In a short time, there are four different things vying for your attention. Each element is compelling but, for me, they distract from each other.
1. Emma Watson's narrative. She's great.
2. The slo mo film of the race. Riveting.
3. The text. Poignant, but goes by too fast. I'm watching the race and trying to listen to Emma.
4. The music. Hey, that sounds like the chord progression for "Chandelier." Hey it IS "Chandelier!" I love that song about a person in an alcoholic vortex. Which is a great hurdle to overcome, but perhaps not the best choice.
It takes a lot of time to concieve, script, storyboard, shoot assemble edit record. But I will have to play this two more times. Once with my eyes closed, and once with the sound off--in order to digest the whole message.
I support the message. It's a cool concept.
