ANN ARBOR, MI -- The Michigan Political Union's decision to debate that the Black Lives Matter movement is harmful to racial relations was halted by an eruption of protesters insisting their lives weren't up for debate.
Students -- many of whom were black -- voiced their displeasure with the MPU's decision to host the debate on Tuesday, Sept. 27, inside the Michigan League, in the wake of fliers that were found on the University of Michigan campus espousing a "racist point of view" on Monday.
The debate featured three participants with differing political stances and ideologies. About 10 minutes into it, hundreds of student voices could be heard from outside the building before they arrived at the doors of the Vandenberg room to unified chants that immediately altered the atmosphere of the room.

Couldn't have put it better myself. Black lives are not up for debate. This sort of thing SHOULD be shut down.

"Black people being upset that the police treat them like vermin - Ya know, that's the real racism."

(9,527 posts)If the campus BLM group is that afraid of a debate, they can't effectively argue for their position.
The debate wasn't over whether black people should be allowed to go to the school, or if they should be allowed to live. It was over whether a specific group is effective at arguing for their point. And the group just proved that they aren't and are afraid to do so.
And university should tell them to go away if they want to interfere with the discussion of ideas instead of giving up the debate.
The campus BLM should've rose to the challenge and debated and defended thier reason for existing, instead they threw a temper tantrum which is the only trick up thier ineffective sleeves.
They proved the opposition argument.

You feel that there should be "debate" over whether or not the protests are appropriate, but don't see how that is an insult?
Hey folks let's debate how you are supposed to react to things that don't affect US but do affect YOU.
