A very personal 'Flintstone' shout out to Russell Simmons, on his 59th Birthday

He has been a true champion for Flint during the water crisis, tirelessly coming to town to personally deliver water and bring national attention to the plight of my wonderful birthplace. We have heard from a whole lot of notables and celebrities, and their support is very much appreciated. But Russell is a prime example of someone who not only talks the talk, he walks the walk.

Russell Simmons
Russell Wendell Simmons (born October 4, 1957)[2] is an American entrepreneur, producer and author. The Chairman and CEO of Rush Communications, he cofounded the hip-hop music label Def Jam Recordings[3] and created the clothing fashion lines Phat Farm, Argyleculture, and Tantris. Simmons had a net-worth estimate of $340 million in 2011.

And an enthusiastic R& to my good DU fellow Michigander buddy.

He's not in this for any publicity. He's here to help.

I always knew who he was, professionally, but never knew the extent of his activism.

Honestly, I love this state. Top to bottom, side to side. And no matter where I might end up, in life, Flint will always be the home of my heart.
