On MSNBC just now. A group of folks sitting in a bar

in Melborne FL a few blocks from the shore feel they are safe. The eye of the strom will most likely go through there and 10 ft storm surge is likely.

Why the hell don't those folks get in their cars and drive west away from the danger?

On NBC Nightly News say he was staying in his easy chair, watching the weather coverage, until the power goes out. He lives on Nettles Island, on the west side of a barrier island. His elevation might be 4-5 feet. Maybe. I think the local emergency people need more body bags.

refused to leave, the police, etc asked for a short list of family members and their phone numbers so the police can notify them of their deaths from flooding, etc. They weren't asking to be dramatic, either, but sometimes it helped persuade them to evacuate.

I heard that after hurricane Ike, there were still a lot of missing people who stayed that should have evacuated. The port authority reluctantly opened the ship channel even though they believed there were still bodies to be recovered.

He also seemed to know what he was doing, and didn't expect anyone to come save him if the mountain blew. He was 84, had lived on the side of the volcano for many years, and was all right with going out that way. Compare and contrast with folks who refuse to leave, but who nevertheless expect to be at the top of the priority list if things go very bad for them.

where people who are evacuated from the coast are SENT TO.
It is far enough from shore, but folks still have to batten down
and prepare for serious problems. They are not necessarily at
risk of being killed.

This is what I was told.

Reporter was talking to the bartender lady and the three patrons didn't really want to be on camera LOL. Camera dude then focused on bartender but at the end panned one last time at the people at the bar. Heard some kind of drunken slur

Reporter dude was like, yeah maybe I shouldn't have come back in here
