(268,717 posts)I suspect she has no power. I sent her a PM message this morning asking how she's doing - no reply yet.

(111,169 posts)Grits is probably busy sopping water up with towels and cussing the power company for not getting the juice back on while Tater and Moonpie complain there isn't enough food to compensate for all the boredom.

Below is the listing of outages from one of the power providers, the other is Berkley co-op, they were off line a minute ago.

(9,474 posts)for 22 years. Still have a house there (Chandler Village) that a friend is renting to own. When Hugo hit, a tree on the lot behind me fell across my backyard fence toward my house, broke the fence and clipped my roof. This time, one of my trees split in half, but the limb (size of a tree trunk) fell across the backyard and missed the fence and the house. No other damage. So glad my friend took his wife and 4 little boys to his mother's (no trees near the house) and were unharmed. My neighbors and friends all survived unscathed, too. I
miss the Lowcountry, but not the storms. Hope you didn't have any damage, and that Grits is ok.
I worked at the International Primate Protection League Gibbon Sanctuary in Knightsville after I retired from the Navy. Heard they had lots of trees down, etc, but no injuries to the Gibbons or otters. Think they're looking for volunteers to help with cleanup.

(1,381 posts)Interesting about storms, we moved here from Tuscaloosa Bama after the April 27 2011 tornado, sick of the storms and tornadoes.
From driving around today, I came to the sudden realization that new developments like ours with small immature trees suffered little to no damage. Those with mature trees and above the ground electrical services... one can see and hear the chainsaws and chipper trucks working full blast.
The skies cleared out last night and one thing I noticed was the sky, due to the lack of ambient light due to power lines being down everywhere, the stars came out to play.
The dangers that remains are water. They expect the rivers to crest in the coming days and expect more flooding.
Can one visit the Gibbon sanctury? I had no idea one existed in what is basically our neighborhood.
