Mike Pence says on MSNBC that jail threat was one of Trump's best moments in the debate.

(30,058 posts)if Trump had his way as president everyone who did not support him would be jailed or killed the Putin way. This would include all Latinos, Muslims, and African Americans. BTW, a registered Democratic Party would be included in Trump's elimination plan.

(86,005 posts)This bit from Clinton's book seems relevant on a night Trump says Clinton should be in jail.

(11,686 posts)is in Brazil at this time for work and when Trump made that threat to put Hillary in prison the guy next to him said "your country is becoming just like ours." He had three different Brazilian women the other day come up to him and say "Trump bad." That is how some of the world is thinking of us.

(86,005 posts)...I recall an election a decade or so ago where a fellow from a small country wrote about the differences between our system of elections and his country's own. One of the most prominent differences, he said, was that our political opponents always come together after the election, and that in his country the elections are marred by efforts to prosecute and jail political opponents.
Along with the violence and threats which have marked the Trump campaign, there's now this authoritarian threat to criminalize political differences from them which I'm certain is getting the attention of every nation struggling to keep their own political system focused away from divisive and dangerous conflict.
I think the way it''s been introduced into the political debate here is a harbinger for the future of American politics. Nothing short of leadership will address it adequately, and so much damage can be done to our democracy if Trump or anyone else is able or allowed to mainstream this type of destructive politics.

(11,686 posts)be a leader. He would be a ruler. He has no interest in leading. Those countries that jail people for different opinions do not have leaders they have dictators, rulers, or whatever term may be used where freedom of thought is put into danger.
