http://kimatv.com/news/entertainment/stevie-nicks-wants-to-sing-landslide-at-hillary-clintons-inauguration(WENN) Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks has added a new item to her bucket list - she wants to perform at Hillary Clinton's presidential inauguration.
Nicks and her band performed "Don't Stop" at Bill Clinton's first inaugural ball and now she wants to sing her solo hit "Landslide" if his wife, the former first lady, beats Republican Donald Trump at the polls in November.
"When she wins by a landslide, I could gather together the Dixie Chicks, Billy Corgan and everybody who's ever sung a version of 'Landslide,'" she told The New York Times. "It's not uptempo, but it certainly would get the message across."

(44,493 posts)It's a good thing he's a musical genius and I can appreciate him for his art. But he seems to just enjoy going out of his way to piss people off.

(44,493 posts)Smashing Pumpkins are my all time favorite band, and Billy's a master in terms of his guitar and songwriting. (His voice is an acquired taste but he can surprise you at times)
But he's just a notoriously prickly personality. Not sure if he likes to play up the whole tortured genius thing or it just comes subconsciously.
So I view him like a family member who is just a difficult person but I'm basically forced to love him.
And his version of Landslide is my favorite hands down, no disrespect to Ms. Nicks or the Dixie Chicks.

(13,956 posts)"Landslide" is Nicks singing about getting out of the very nasty marriage to Lindsey Buckingham. Granted, FM was a drug fueled hellhole that brought out the worst in everyone, but this was directed at Lindsey, a song that says "Sorry, we have to move on." That is perfect as America finally divorces itself from the asshole boyfriends and abusive spouses that are the GOP.
"iv'e been afraid of changing//cause Iv'e built my life around you
but time makes you bolder//children get older
I'm getting older too..
I took my love//I took it down
Climbed a mountain and turned around
and if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
the landslide will take it down.'

(235 posts)'Landslide' was written in 1973 before Stevie and Lindsey joined Fleetwood Mac. Their relationship ended in 1975.
The song Stevie wrote about the end of her relationship with Lindsey is 'Dreams' which is a sort of counterpoint to Lindsey's 'Go Your Own Way'.
This is how 'Landslide' came to be in Stevie's own words;
It was written in 1973 at a point where Lindsey and I had driven to Aspen for him to rehearse for two weeks with Don Everly. Lindsey was going to take Phil's place. So they rehearsed and left, and I made a choice to stay in Aspen. I figured I'd stay there and one of my girlfriends was there. We stayed there for almost three months while Lindsey was on the road, and this is right after the Buckingham Nicks record had been dropped. And it was horrifying to Lindsey and I because we had a taste of the big time, we recorded in a big studio, we met famous people, we made what we consider to be a brilliant record and nobody liked it (laughs). I had been a waitress and a cleaning lady, and I didn't mind any of this. I was perfectly delighted to work and support us so that Lindsey could produce and work and fix our songs and make our music.
But I had gotten to a point where it was like, "I'm not happy. I am tired. But I don't know if we can do any better than this. If nobody likes this, then what are we going to do?"
So during that two months I made a decision to continue. "Landslide" was the decision. "When you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills" - it's the only time in my life that I've lived in the snow. But looking up at those Rocky Mountains and going, "Okay, we can do it. I'm sure we can do it." In one of my journal entries, it says, "I took Lindsey and said, 'We're going to the top!'" And that's what we did. Within a year, Mick Fleetwood called us, and we were in Fleetwood Mac making $800 a week apiece (laughs). Washing $100 bills through the laundry. It was hysterical. It was like we were rich overnight.

(89,940 posts)Followed by the line "I'm getting older too." My 2nd-and-last kid moved out earlier this year. I'm still not over it. That song reliably gets me choked up. This year, worse than ever.

(89,940 posts)But at least so far, no interest on his part. And our daughter's a newlywed - to a great guy who's pretty much locked in, in another state, because of the family business of which he's an active part. It's quite clear that she WON'T be coming back.
"Landslide" is one song I don't think I can bear to hear - at least for awhile.

(89,940 posts)I started "working on it" with both my kids the same night they each were born. "Remember, you're gonna have to give them away someday. They're only gonna be yours for a little while. Be ready for it." And I told myself and told myself and told myself. Reminded and reminded and reminded. Eyes wide open and all that.
Baloney.
The day came when he moved out. I was destroyed. A mess. Cried for weeks. And that was earlier this year. He informed us of his decision to move out the previous Christmas Eve. Our boy's a professional musician, but in that case his sense of timing was for absolute shit! I think it hit especially hard because there were some leftover emotions that hadn't surfaced when his big sister left for college and basically never came back except to visit. This was the last kid. All gone. It's over. I cried for a whole lot of additional weeks, after that.
AND I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME!!!! From the day they both were born. Didn't make it one bit easier once it did.
Enjoy him as much as you can, while you still can.
