I have always loved going to the polls to proudly cast my vote, part of the democratic experience

but since I saw long lines in GA & NC, I decided to request an absentee ballot. Did it online 10/21. I expect to have it by Tues.

I am admitting to being elderly, & didn't think I could stand in line for 4 hours in hot FL sun, if that would be the case. Hope there are long lines.

Early voting starts Oct 24 - Nov 6

Who need to get in sooner.

For the 2012 primary I was two days out of the rehab hospital from getting my second total knee replacement that summer. I was still on a walker and my husband drove me up to the door of the polling location so I could get out while he parked the car.

Before I could close the car door a poll worker had spotted me, led me past the line and got me to a table with a chair. Instead of having to stand to check in, another poll worker came over to me, got my information, checked me in and brought me my ballot. I had finished voting before my husband finished parking the car!

I still had to wait so he could vote, but since the polling place was a branch library, I went in there and sat down to wait. One of the poll workers took my husband's name so when he checked in twenty minutes later they told him where to find me.

Now I generally go to an early polling place that has shorter lines - you should be able to call the Supervisor of Elections office and ask which places that might be. When I voted in the primary this year there were no lines at the location I chose. I walked in and there were two voters filling out their ballots and no voters at the check in tables. The other branch library that is about the same distance from me is more popular - they get more voters than the main location at the county courthouse!

Also check to verify the early voting days for your county - they vary. The state election site says early voting starts Oct. 29 but in Leon it starts Oct. 24. Different counties can offer different numbers of days depending on polling locations and budgets, apparently.
