Another way is by gilding everything that doesn't get out of the way and slapping marble over everything that does. Yes, the gilding high up is paint and the furniture is all reproduction, but he's still being charged a fortune for all of it.
He's trying to compete with very old money and doesn't realize how completely understated such old money is. A lot of new money has gone broke trying to impress old money.

and a serial sexual assault practitioner and spread the word to avoid him at all costs. He's very bitter and very thin-skinned. The money never bought acceptance.
