Admit that premiums will go up 22% 2 weeks from the election. This gives the media, trump, and congressional republicans something to talk about. Man I cannot wait until this election is over

(27,787 posts)That's what the GOP would do ... and is doing.
Remember when the GOP said the ACA would destroy the economy?
Remember when the GOP said the ACA would increase unemployment?
Remember when the GOP said the ACA would kill people?
The GOP was wrong over and over and over. And they worked to damage the ACA at every turn.
The reality is that the ACA helps 20 million people who did not have insurance get it. Because the ACA did not totally get rid of the insurance companies, those companies STILL get to try and SQUEEZE huge amounts of $$$$$$$$$ out of sick people. Which is what the GOP wants.
Much of the rate increase being seen is in RED states where the GOP Governor declined to take advantage of Medicaid expansion in the ACA. They declined to create their own STATE exchanges.
They did everything they could to limit the positive effects of the ACA, and helped allow the insurance companies the ability to continue to abuse the sick.
The GOP hates the government so much, they will literally kill their constituents to prove it.
If you elect people who hate the government to run the government (as the GOP does) do not expect them to help make things better.
making things better runs counter to their personal interest and their ideology.

(82,849 posts)By the way, this premium hike is for the approximately 3% of the population that is on the exchanges. For families and individuals who earn less than 400% of the federal poverty line, there will be subsidies available to cover some or all of the increase. The increase is due to the insurance companies who insisted on remaining as the gatekeepers for healthcare coverage in our country.
Part of the price insurance companies supposedly agreed to pay for staying in the loop was to cover people who weren't on Medicaid, Medicare or employer-provided insurance. Why don't the insurance companies suck it up and cover this as their part of making sure Americans have access to health care? Or, if that's too much of an imposition on the free market, why didn't Congress do anything in the last six years to soften the blow for citizens?
Let's make sure we're holding those responsible responsible.
