(80,708 posts)gee, I wonder why they would be sending out ballots that have Measure 2 left off of them? Gee, whoops, sorry, our bad

(34,131 posts)From your link - "The elections office said that was caused by pages sticking together due to humidity."
That would likely mean that none of the amendments would be on the defective ballots, wouldn't it?
Here during early voting once you check in at the front desks they give you a ticket to take to a separate station where a ballot is printed just for you. Then you fill it out and put it into the optical scanner - no one handles your ballot once you fill it out.
I like this system. It's fast, efficient and you can go anywhere in the county to vote. Plus with the paper ballots if there are any problems with the count, the paper ones can be counted by hand.

(80,708 posts)sample ballots being "mistakenly" mailed out instead of real ones, and for some unfathomable reason the sample ballots just happened to be missing that ONE question and nothing else.
Oh, Florida. You have my condolences.

(3,867 posts)I think the missing amend 2 was only in Broward Cty, which is where I live. When I voted this morning I asked the poll worker if it was on the paper ballot, she immediately pointed to it.
Last time it was on the ballot it got 57% - 58%, needs 60% to pass.
I just checked my sample ballot that I got a while back & it is on there.

(27,432 posts)We were the first state to pass a medical marijuana initiative 20 years ago. This year we're going for legalization like WA and CO.
I mailed my ballot last week and am pretty confident it will pass.

(3,892 posts)The article says there were two competing proposals on the ballot. Wouldn't this make it more likely that the remaining one passes?

(3,737 posts)Hope it passes this time. A few years ago, the recreational weed proposition failed. The polls look pretty good this time.

(80,708 posts)The only noise I've heard in opposition to it is from growers afraid it will cut into their profit margins. But growers in legal states can tell them those fears are unfounded. The benefits to full legalization are widespread.

(11,427 posts)About it. Mainly afraid after the 5 yr ban on big farms and 2 yr ban on out of state that it will kill the little local guy.
This area is all about local sustainable.
I voted yes but know others who won't so I am not sure. One of my daughters friends with small kids is on fire in fb trying to get others not to vote for it.

Pretty shocked that Ala. actually did something intelligent.

(80,708 posts)Up until now, though, change has had to come almost entirely through direct ballot initiatives in states that have them.

(80,708 posts)But I think the biggest blow to prohibition, federally, will be if CA passes measure 64- and I think it probably will.
After that, though, we may be stuck with a state-by-state situation, for a while, since drug laws and the lack thereof have traditionally been a state issue; in fact it has only been through an extremely torturous and stretched definition of the commerce clause that the feds have even been able to claim any interest in controlling what individuals do with their own bodies vis a vis any substances they might ingest.

(60,010 posts)But I think more and more people are "getting it" that Big Pharma is the main influence of anti-pot laws.
Not sure where Hillary stands, would hope she is pro.
Meanwhile, we have the situation where the Feds are arresting users and raiding licensed pot shops in some states.
You would think that the State's Rights crowd would be upset over this.
