Hamilton and a few others were terrified of democracy and the possibility that some conman could hoodwink the voters. Even back then when it was only white men, and usually property owners, who could vote.

aren't going to do anything to jeopardize them gaining the WH. Maybe after inauguration if they feel he is to big of a liability but they've got what they want...control of both houses and someone who just wants the attention and glory but will leave the actual running of the country up to them.
