Is this topic off limits? I have suspicions.

(15,543 posts)...something about Republican role-model Comrade Casino's so-called "victory" stinks bigly.
Mighty bigly.

(31,215 posts)and believe it's time for the democrats in congress and hillary's campaign to begin talking about it as well. do you think the media might even investigate?

(171 posts)I thought that speculation would be running wild around here once we were back up. So far I've heard no one claim responsibility. I know that the folks over at ar15.com thought that the entire thing was incredibly funny, and they seemed to be aware of it immediately after it happened, and they spent a LONG time discussing it with glee. Anyone else thinking what I'm thinking?

(15,511 posts)I finally found a thread that mentioned the DU hack in a general discussion forum, and another poster wrote "we know" and shared an older thread about it that was apparently created just minutes after the hack. There was 10 pages of them celebrating the hack in that thread, although none of them seemed to know who did it.
What blew my mind was that many of them liked the "message" in the video, which struck me as the ramblings of a lunatic!
Someone posted the following in that thread, but I don't know if it's accurate regarding Sweden:

It was surreal. Suddenly a bunch of threads popped up saying that Trump is God Emporer. The site slowed way down and I noticed it kept trying to load something from an SE (Sweden?) domain. Then the Trump video played. I clicked on Inspect Element (Firefox) and couldn't see a source, but there was a comment along the lines "don't delete this you cunts"
Next there was only the "DU is temporarily offline for updates" message, then you got a usesrname and password popup. Somewhere in there was also a message that the forums were reserved for paying members. Kind of interesting to see in real time

(171 posts)It's just too coincidental. I don't buy it. When I used to troll over there (also under the handle Barstow Cowboy) I learned that those guys (contrary to popular belief) don't have an average IQ of 87; some of them are really smart and could've pulled off the hack, and they're OBSESSED with this site!!! Hell, they're the ones who turned me on to this place now that I think of it.

(171 posts)I don't really care what they think, I give exactly negative 87 fucks about the whole lot of them, but I do find it interesting that in the midst of their rapture a whole lot of them *just happened* to come over here and noticed we were hacked. To me that seems unlikely. To me it seems more likely that someone over there either had something to do with it and couldn't help themselves from sharing it, or at least knew who did it and went to ar15.com and posted the news to publicize their efforts. If you look at the times those threads were started it was pretty darn close to simultaneous with when we got hacked. Too coincidental for me to believe they neither had anything to do with it or knew someone who had something to do with it. FYI I used to troll over there under the same handle I use here (Barstow Cowboy) until I got myself banned for posting MSPaint homosexual Baphomet Porn. Those guys and girls are the biggest collection of assholes this side of 4chan.

(170,191 posts)they are absolute cowards who have little faith in their own stupid conservative ideas, so they feel the need to "see what the other side is doing".....FUCK them, seriously FUCK THEM.......they're always screaming about FREEDOM and RIGHTS, as long as it's for WHITE CHRISTIAN GUN HUMPERS.....they can all FUCK THEMSELVES.
BarstowCowboy
(171 posts)It's worse than you describe, because now they are taking hostages over there. They have a number of openly gay members who think that these assholes are their friends, and from what I just learned recently the entire thing is run by a man with a Spanish last name, so they're growing beyond their racist/bigoted/homophobic/xenophobic roots. I wish it was just 87,000 or so half-dead, white 87 year old men, but they seem to be growing. I think it's because of the returning vets who have an affinity for those assault rifles that's keeping the gun humping subculture alive. Talk about blowback!

(13,390 posts)It's a hypocritical position after showing outrage when Trump would not say he'd accept the results, though. Worse than that it would be falling into a media trap because they would like nothing more than to have riots to cover.

No Democrat ever said that illegitimate results should be accepted, or that we should never ask for a recount to verify the results.

(150,864 posts)to be gained by it. None of us has any access to admin-level information about DU. So, we can't see activity logs or anything else from the time the hack took place.
DU's admins can, and I'm sure have been investigating as far as they are able to. However, a skilled hacker will leave few trackable clues behind, so it's unlikely they'll be able to discover much.
Several people, including me, did some sleuthing on the internet after the fact and passed along what we found to the DU admins via email. There were a few clues out there, but they were ephemeral and inconclusive, really. But, the admins have that information already.
I stopped looking, frankly a couple of days later, because the signal to noise ratio quickly became too low to find any new information that had any validity.
So, we can talk about it on DU, but to what end? Anything that gets discussed here will just be speculation and guesswork. So, there's little point. Apparently, DU has closed up the access points that let the hacker get through and the site is up and working once again. DU got hacked. It's back. End of actual public story.
Anyhow, welcome to DU...

(17,199 posts)have our computers been compromised? (as in terms of viruses and malware)
Plus the administrators said IP addresses of all the members were collected. Isn't that dangerous?
(This is my first day back since the election and I'm concerned.)
MineralMan
(150,864 posts)IP addresses alone are not all that useful, really. If someone was trying to harm your computer, it probably wouldn't be through taking down the DU website. Instead, they'd try to keep everything looking normal.
If you're concerned, run a virus and malware scan, using whatever software you prefer.
