Who actually has a newspaper subscription?

Post-election, subscriptions to the NYT and WP have skyrocketed as a means of supporting an independent media. Conversely, I've encountered people here who insist that "information should be free". Where do you fit in?

(as for me, I've had a paper subscription to the Times since college, I have digital subscriptions to the NY Daily News and Washington Post, and I periodically buy a temporary subscription to The Guardian.

We've had it a long time and we like it.

It's been interesting seeing it evolve. I guess some folks see it as right-wing, but I don't. They are generally moderate in their editorials, although the op-ed page can be conservative and sometimes is.

Still, we enjoy it.

I just signed up for a digital subscription so I can lift as many articles as I want to post here. It was free since we pay for the paper version.

We have zero problem paying for it. They need to make money to stay in business.

Always have, but used to take the local paper too.

Gave up on the local paper some years ago when a billionaire bought it for some kind of hobby and fired all the good reporters when they objected to her non-journalistic behavior. She confirmed us in our decision this year by actually endorsing Trump.

but, first, they got bought out by a media conglomerate, and then moved from their old downtown location to a new "castle on a hill" overlooking the town. Then, all of their subscription drives are managed by out-of-state call centers, with high-pressure cold-calls and so forth. Its all bad form. I'm thinking of a subscription to the New York Times, but then I also have to be realistic about the time I have to spend reading the papers...one of these days, maybe.

I recently cancelled my subscription to our local paper (very right wing) when the editor wrote a hit piece on Tim Kaine, above the fold, that was an editorial masking as news. I wrote him an email and told him why I, for the first time in my adult life, was not financially supporting a local newspaper.

Also the Charlotte Observer in my hometown city,

The Key West Citizen paper where I lived for so many years is one of my faves.

"The Home News" in the tiny hamlet near where we own property in a VERY red part of the state.

And the local paper from the biggest town there (not very big).

I love newspapers.
