Goddamnit. If I hear one more fucking person say that "we are all to blame" for this shitty situation we find ourselves in, I am going to. . . . I don't know. . . what?
In any case, let's place the blame squarely where it belongs: the idiotic hordes who voted for It. There is a PRIME example of this idiocy in today's NYT.
There is a small picture of a woman with Crohn's Disease who voted for It. Her quote? "I hope everything stays the same." (i.e. ACA). . . .
I'm too tired to point fingers, but let's not forget how much we warned them, and THEY wouldn't listen.
Thank you for listening. I woke up in a really ugly mood--out of coffee and then THIS!

(16,377 posts)I was a Bernie supporter and when he lost the nomination I said to myself and others, "Ok, I will get on board for Hillary, but I won't work on her campaign." I voted for her, of course, but could have done more and SHOULD have done more. I will regret my inaction for the rest of my life.

Still feel like I could have done more.

(18,252 posts)spent my weekends in a a swing state in September and October. But that last week after the Comey letter, I was so dispirited and disheartened; it felt like, no matter what, Hillary was never going to be permitted to run in a clean, issues-driven race, and if she won, she'd never be allowed a chance to actually lead and govern. The shit was never going to end.
And I also knew that if I felt that way, that others who were not as invested in her candidacy might say to themselves, "Enough. We can't have four years of this," and either stay home or vote for someone else. I wonder how many votes we lost that week.
It was Comey and the media. He wanted his right wing redemption that only her downfall would secure. They wanted their horse race, and they wanted their four years of the American presidency as a reality TV show. Think of the revenue!
When Comey's news broke on October 28, I texted my adult daughter, "I think Hillary just lost the election." With 10 days left to go, a corrupt FBI and a complicit media sold out every principle of trust under which it is their duty to function.
But I could have done more that last week, and I wish I had.

(38,958 posts)I voted for her, not that I wanted to, but I feel no remorse in not working for her victory. This election was her's to lose from the very beginning and it appears she did just that. I found her campaign to be very uninspiring and simply blah. Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump generated energy and enthusiasm which got people into the process, she simply did not.

(3,077 posts)I definitely agree 100% with this. I didn't feel any enthusiasm from her campaign. I know it's hard to follow President Obama but she just fell flat.

Corporate America is laughing at us. Some of us in the back may mooooo a little, but they have most all of us cowed on a rope with a ring through our noses and can lead us wherever they want to. They control the narrative, they ignore their own false equivalencies, through the media empires they own.
They eroded our collective will a lot of ways. One is the slow acceptance of famous for being famous standard that is now the norm. The Kardashians is a good example. Trump on the Apprentice is another. And more than that, these new 'stars' are deemed as exemplary Americans simply because they are rich and successful at making themselves richer at our own expense. I mean, there has to be some kind of brilliance in that right?
And why wouldn't I vote for a bonified 'star', the popular kid in the class, even though he's a little rude, over the mousey nerd that thinks she's smarter than everyone and can't promise any of the kinds of changes as the kid who is a cross between Denis the Menace and Richie Rich...like no more homework, and black kids have to sit in the back of the class, along with the gimps and girls. Its all so exciting! Lets make a TV show about it!

(26,044 posts)...there would be outright rioting in the streets if the people were presented with a situation where, although candidate A won the vote, candidate B was actually going to become their leader due to an arcane process that dictated that it wasn't how many votes you won, it was where you won them.
I know, we've had the electoral college around for centuries, but most people probably only grudgingly tolerated it with the understanding that cases where the popular vote loser would be "elected" would be few and far between. And, for the first two-hundred-plus years of our country, that was the case. But, now, it's happened twice in the past sixteen years. At what point do we declare that this is an intolerable situation for a supposed democracy?

(42,316 posts)I volunteered for Hillary's campaign and had the chance to work with others like me (we are rare here).
Week after the election, I had a convo with a few ladies after an exercise class. All in their early 60s. All Drumpf voters. One said she would be Medicare eligible in a few years. "Oh, that's too bad," said I. She was confused. I explained about her party's plan to privatize Medicare and told her she'll be getting a voucher to buy private insurance. The other woman said, " you mean they're going to do that?" They both looked concerned.

Her church, my old one, was actively preaching the vote pro life message. I'm sure that affected her.

(309 posts)It is so frustrating to see us Dems pointing fingers at one another when we are simply not to blame. I blame the voters who didn't take the time to educate themselves. I blame Russia who hacked us and tampered with our election. I blame the Repubs for being willing to use said Russian hacked information because hey, as long as it benefits them, who cares about our democracy? I blame Comey and the FBI for erroneously intervening in the election in such a way that there was no feasible defense that could be made by our party. Last but not least, I blame the evil Tangerine for strategically bringing out the worst in this country all so he could stick it to President Obama and settle up the tab on his enemies list.
But Dems who did their patriotic duty and voted for Clinton Kaine and other democrats down ticket? I have no issues with them whatsoever.

(26,044 posts)Seriously, at some point you have to look beyond policies and at the person you're entrusting to carry them out. If you see no problem in choosing a known bully who promotes blatant racism, brags about sexual assault, openly encourages violence against opponents, and repeatedly demonstrates all the impulse control of a particularly spoiled two-year-old, then you are the problem.
Really, I don't care what a person's platform may contain -- if you can seriously opt for someone with that demonstrated lack of character, you should be ashamed of being alive.
