It's the various Republican Secretary of States who have been using/abusing the "Cross-Check" system to disenfranchise presumed minority voters all over the country-- yet our Democratic candidates for Secretary-of-States are left largely on their own.
The results of these races can badly effect every Democratic candidate on a state's ballot if the Republicans win the office. The results can really filter down to every future race for the next four years (usually). So I think more should be done on a national level to support our state SOS candidates-- at least where they have a chance of winning.

Also - the SOS in WI is already a Democrat. PA doesn't have one.
We have a Democratic SOS here in NC... but I think I've seen "cross-check" stories here.
Regardless... you are of course correct. To expand, we need to concentrate on state races (legislatures and executive branch positions). If Republicans control as many states as they do now come 2020... we're going to be in the wilderness for decades.

Secretary of State.
It's time to bring it back.
